If the idea of watching the sun set over Windermere from your pitch sounds rather lovely, you'll need to take a look at Ghyll Head House Farm Certificated Location, a small site a little way back from the lake's eastern shore, with views across the lake. This quiet site is part of a working farm/horse livery five minutes' drive from Bowness-on-Windermere, and the handful of pitches are available to members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club only; please note that no dogs are allowed, because of the site's horses. From the site you can walk directly onto the fells or ride bikes to country pubs; the owners are happy to make suggestions of suitable routes, great places to eat and drink and places to go nearby. Bowness-on-Windermere has plenty of bars and eateries, as well as being home to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction; if you don't fancy driving you can catch the bus from the bottom of the hill (services also take you to a Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway station, the Lakes Aquarium and towns including Keswick, Ambleside and Grasmere). Each of the hardstanding pitches at this site has an electric hook-up, and there are shared water and waste disposal facilities nearby. A small amenities area has a shower and washing-up area as well as toilets.

Liked Owners were absolutely lovely, great CL, will stop there definitely when we travel back to the lakes. Pitches were large and facilities were immaculate. EHU and water close and what a great view of Lake Windermere.
Could do with another toilet as if someone is in the shower you would have to wait.

What a lovely little gem! 💖 Just 4 motorhome spaces (up to 7.5m) so very peaceful, beautiful views over Lake Windermere and such welcoming owners. 😍

Less than a 10-minute taxi ride to Bowness, so a perfect peaceful base with everything close by.

We really loved it and will definitely return! Rob & Lizzy x

Disliked No dislikes as there weren’t any ☺️ just a couple of points to note if you are planning on visiting;

- The farm is fairly remote, and it’s quite dark when coming back at night so make sure you’ve got your phone or torch with you so you don’t accidentally end up in a bush after a few beverages!

- The toilet and shower were really new and clean however they are currently in the same cubicle so if someone else is in the shower you can’t use the toilet until they are finished - unlikely to be an issue with only 4 van spaces but just worth mentioning if you like a long shower!

Disliked Not really a dislike but needs a 2nd shower and toilet. Can be a bit of a wait at peek times.

Liked Warm and friendly welcome by Joanne and Mark at Ghyll Head House Farm. Level gravel pitches with electric hook up on a tidy site with fresh water, chemical disposal and recycling facilities all available along with the new toilet, shower and wash up cabin. A very peaceful and picturesque site right on the doorstep of all Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere has to offer. We will be back 👍

Disliked Observations, not dislikes. If you’re back after dark, have a torch ready. There’s minimal lighting on the farm, rightly so, apart from the toilet cabin and the hook up pods by the pitches. Also note the toilet and shower are in the same room within the cabin so if a fellow visitor is taking a shower the toilet is also inaccessible.
