If the idea of watching the sun set over Windermere from your pitch sounds rather lovely, you'll need to take a look at Ghyll Head House Farm Certificated Location, a small site a little way back from the lake's eastern shore, with views across the lake. This quiet site is part of a working farm/horse livery five minutes' drive from Bowness-on-Windermere, and the handful of pitches are available to members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club only; please note that no dogs are allowed, because of the site's horses. From the site you can walk directly onto the fells or ride bikes to country pubs; the owners are happy to make suggestions of suitable routes, great places to eat and drink and places to go nearby. Bowness-on-Windermere has plenty of bars and eateries, as well as being home to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction; if you don't fancy driving you can catch the bus from the bottom of the hill (services also take you to a Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway station, the Lakes Aquarium and towns including Keswick, Ambleside and Grasmere). Each of the hardstanding pitches at this site has an electric hook-up, and there are shared water and waste disposal facilities nearby. A small amenities area has a shower and washing-up area as well as toilets.

Em va agradar That has got to be the BEST Caravan Club C.L. we have stayed on. Fantastic views over Windermere to the Langdale hills and Coniston Old Man. A short walk down the hill to the bus stop.
Water & Electric on the pitch
Toilet and Shower in a building.
We will definately return.

No em va agradar The price could have been better, suggest £35/night rather than £40.

Em va agradar Peaceful. Lovely view over Windermere Fuss free. Nice to have a shower and toilet.

No em va agradar Pot wash was a bonus but water was only lukewarm warm although the shower was toastie
No dogs as horses. We were leaving our dog at home as going to wedding. It would sadly mean we couldn’t go back there

Em va agradar Lovely place. A few cmhc pitches on an equine farm. Looks to be fairly new (Sep 2026). Level pitches. Friendly welcome. Clean toilet and shower. Wash up area.

Em va agradar Owners were absolutely lovely, great CL, will stop there definitely when we travel back to the lakes. Pitches were large and facilities were immaculate. EHU and water close and what a great view of Lake Windermere.
Could do with another toilet as if someone is in the shower you would have to wait.

You can also board a little ferry across to the far side of the lake for a stroll to the Claife viewpoint. Ambleside (20 minutes) and Kendal (25 minutes) are also worth some time if you fancy town wanders; those who’d rather find rural rambles might prefer to turn to places like National Trust - Fell Foot (10 minutes) or the trails at Tarn Hows (half an hour). And if that’s all too energetic, plan a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway (15 minutes) instead. Other outings nearby might include the Lakeland Model Village (10 minutes) or Lakes Aquarium (15 minutes), with heritage sites like Blackwell - the Arts & Crafts house (three minutes) and John Ruskin’s former home at Brantwood (45 minutes) also good picks.
