Oakwood Campsite

Liked Quiet, not just other patrons, but the area was very peaceful. Toilets were clean with good lighting and a good hand dryer. The showers were plentiful and had big enclosures. Easy to come and go, water points throughout.

We camped in a tent and found the tent area to be flat or with a gentle slope.

Liked Posh brick building toilet shower washing up facilities friendly owners and fellow campers off ground BBQs allowed as grass is green again. Very secure with electric gate with code.

Liked The layout of the site is really good. The manager was super friendly and greeted us on arrival and came round the next morning to check we were ok. Field is great for letting the kids play freely. Lovely walks near by (mind the cows in the field) pub not to far away, nice stroll along the canal. Women's toilets very clean and shower sizes very good. Electric top up super easy to do and got the money I didn't use refunded straight back.

Disliked Men's toilets- filthy and no running cold water for brushing teeth etc wasn't great. Bin store very messy and very small. No quiet time so people very noisy until late at night. Always a queue for washing up, and not a lot of space to do so.

I spend the whole weekend tending to campers needs, which includes constant cleaning in the toilet block. You describe the toilets as filthy, which perhaps you found a period I wasn't in them.
There is plenty of cold water for brushing teeth,

Quiet time is a difficult one to police. I have to sleep myself, so cannot monitor it at all times. I wonder why you didn't mention this when I do my rounds onsite?

The weekend was extremely busy and therefore, there will be queues at times.

Liked We had a lovely stay at the campsite and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Lucy was incredibly accommodating and went out of her way to make sure all of our needs were met. The facilities were always clean, tidy and well stocked, which made our stay even more comfortable.

The campsite was well looked after, and it was clear that a lot of care and attention goes into maintaining it. We would definitely recommend staying here and would happily return in the future. Thank you, Lucy, for making our stay so enjoyable!

Disliked There are great big long rows of plots. So the back rows have to pass your windows to get to the amenities. So not a relaxing site when everyone passing your window all the time.

It would appear from your comments, that actually, there wasn't much to complain about?

Small sites like mine, are very affected by poor reviews and I feel your review was particularly harsh, and unnecessarily so.

I would urge you to talk to the owners of sites before doing this sort of thing again.

Liked Bathrooms were very modern and well specced. It is in a lovely rural area with good walks locally. A decent pub is within 1km.

Disliked I wasn't keen on the use of campfires and BBQs during the incredibly hot and dry summer we have had, it was a disaster waiting to happen. Also it was a bit like the wild west at times with the noise levels, there did not seem to be a 'lights out' policy or if there was it wasn't implemented. I was thankful that we all had earplugs.

I often wonder why nobody tells me when I walk around the campsite. I am visible most days, especially at weekends.

It is important to me that everyone enjoys their stay and I am sensitive to noise issues and can usually do something about it IF people tell me.

Regarding fires, I was very conscious of the risks and tried to make sure everyone was careful, asking people to have water on hand and not leave fires unattended. Disposable BBQs have always been a no no, however people do occasionally ignore rules regarding this, and it is impossible to police. Someone even took a disposable into the field behind the campsite and left it behind. I would suggest it is those sort of people that cause the wild fires we have all seen on TV etc. not your average responsible member of the public.
I think fires and cooking outdoors is a major thing when camping and I didn't want to spoil that by stopping people having them.

I monitor the site as closely as I can without being intrusive, I do, however, have to sleep and cannot control everything that goes on.
