  • Peaceful family-run smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive from Chester and within 40 of north Wales beaches
  • Barbecues allowed; firepits and professional pizza oven to hire
You shouldn't be too surprised to hear that there's handsome countryside surrounding the quiet rural site of Kings Acre Glamping. And how spacious it is too: the green lands around the site run to 20 acres. You can venture regally around two kingdoms from here, as Kings Acre is deep in Cheshire countryside for English days aplenty, and within 40 minutes' drive of both splendid Snowdonia and the beaches of the north Wales coast. The ancient city of Chester is a three and a half miles away for shopping and sightseeing, or you could stick to non-urban days and make your way north to the beaches, comely villages and famed golf courses of the Wirral peninsula. Kings Acre is a peaceful and spacious park on a family-run smallholding, serenely set down a private lane in the village of Saughall. It's in a walkers' paradise with plenty of nearby footpaths – or you might prefer to seek out the site's small lake and see if the little bar is open…? Amenities include a separate shared toilet and shower block; the site also allows barbecues and has firepits for hire (with wood available to buy) to keep evenings nice and toasty. Something a bit more ambitious? There's also a professional pizza oven to hire.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, peaceful, family-run campsite with friendly and helpful hosts. Guests praise the clean facilities, well-maintained grounds, and lovely pond area. The site's location is ideal for visiting Chester and surrounding attractions. The provision of a communal fridge, freezer, and covered kitchen area is appreciated, especially for use in various weather conditions. Some minor points raised include a 10:30 checkout and occasional issues with shower temperatures or the tidiness of the washing-up area. The proximity to an airport flight path was noted by one guest but did not cause disruption for others.

Little Owl bell tent

Liked The campsite was small and quiet (perfect for us!) The bell tent we stayed in was the perfect size for us two adults and two children, including our travel cot. The little bar area near the lake was a lovely touch to charge phones and relax of an evening. Was lovely to wake up and see the horses. The showers and toilets were pretty clean and more than satisfactory for a campsite. It was also very helpful to have access to the fridge and sink area. Around a lovely little campsite.

Disliked Not a dislike, but some constructive feedback: I think the campsite would benefit from a little honesty shack for essentials (like snacks, bottled water, plasters), just as we have seen this at a different campsite and it came in very useful.

Wren bell tent

Liked How clean the tent and toilets were and you can buy bundles for wood there too.

Disliked There were quite a few wasps and there were rats down the stream next to the tents but I guess that can not be helped.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We LOVED our stay at Kings Acre & we would 100% return!! Firstly I sent a message asking for a pitch with as much space as possible for my high energy, high needs little people & we ended up lakeside for a tiny upgrade fee which was really beautiful, with only one other bell tent (which you can hire, empty) just bring your roll mats & sleeping bags, how ace!!
We were given really great instructions to find the place & it went without a hitch. We were welcomed by the lovely owners on the 1st day & they were always easily found doing jobs on site, but equally we were left alone to our family time. Lyndon helped us fing the perfect beach for what the kids wanted to do & was really knowledgeable about the local area. As it was our first camp in our new bell tent he lent his expertise with pitching up & putting down too!
Lovely clubhouse to shelter from the rain or just plug your phone in. Showers were fab. Always clean, warm & powerful. Perfect kitchen area, again nice & clean. A fridge freezer AND a kettle, a couple of luxuries that make camping with a family so much easier.
Plenty of room to play football & horses on site who loved watching the kids play.
Don't let the flight path put you off, it's really not that busy & pretty cool to see/hear the planes, none of us were woken up by them.
If you are the type of person that wild camped before kids (like us) & now you still want that back to nature feel, with the ability to flush a loo & make a coffee without getting the gas stove out first thing, this is the place for you!!

We visited Rhyl (40mins away), Colwyn Bay (40mins away), Llandudno (50mins away), Chester Zoo (10mins away), Blacon adventure playground, a community project (10mins away) & Chester (10mins away.) There is an ASDA, Aldi & Morrisons all within 15mins of the site, yet you still feel like you're in the middle of nowhere when you get back to your tent. Absolutely perfect 👌

Disliked Leaving Kings Acre & coming home!!

Bell tent (basic)

Liked Gorgeous clean belle tent already up for our arrival, quite family camp site. Little pub was open on Saturday what is a great addition the guy behind the bar was friendly and lovely to chat with. There is a fridge freezer to keep good food/ drinks cold, kettle and washing facilities. Charging station for phones. My children enjoyed playing by the lake using nets and being in nature.
Hosts are lovely and friendly.

Little Owl bell tent

Liked We had a wonderful weekend. The tent itself was clean, comfortable, and very well-kept. The facilities on-site were clear, practical, and provided everything we needed for an easy stay.

The location is excellent, with easy access to nearby supermarkets, making it effortless to pick up fresh food, drinks, and supplies. Overall, the site felt peaceful, open, and delightfully spacious, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. It was a fantastic base for exploring Chester, and we will very likely be returning next year!

Local attractions

Take your pick from England or Wales, River Dee or Snowdonia fishing, and beaches and seaside villages on both sides of the border. Golfers should most cetsinly bring along their clubs too, as the nearby Wirral peninsula is home to Hoylake Municipal Golf Club, a previous venue for The Open. The famed and fab Roman city of Chester is within 20 minutes' drive, for shops, bars and restaurants if your tastes tend towards the more modern, and the city walls (the most complete in Britain), cathedral, Chester Castle and Grosvenor Museum for more anciently-themed pursuits. Meets and events are at Chester Racecourse, also within 10 minutes, and family days can/should be had at Chester Zoo, the UK's most visited with over 21,000 critters to see. Heading north to the Wirral, clamber up the sand dunes at the North Wirral Coastal Park 25 minutes' drive away, to have a spot of birdwatching at Red Rocks beach (40 minutes), followed by the spectacularly scenic walk from Red Rocks to West Kirby. Another top Wirral attraction is the village of Port Sunlight, built for local workers in the 19th century: potter around the arts and crafts cottages, museum and art gallery, or take a heritage tour.
