What customers say

This is a well-regarded wild camping site offering spectacular valley views and a peaceful atmosphere. Guests consistently praise the friendly and attentive hosts, the cleanliness of the portaloos, and the convenient five-minute walk to a local gastro pub. Amenities include complimentary tea, coffee, and milk, with fire pits available. While generally excellent, some visitors noted the site can be very exposed to wind. Limited facilities mean it's best suited for shorter stays.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful views and awesome atmosphere. Plenty of space and the owner is very helpful. This is pretty much wild camping with a few essentials that are needed.

The toilets are amazingly clean and are cleaned regularly. The trailer has plenty of water for everyone daily. This place is great for everyone 🥰

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Views are amazing. Portaloos clean. Nice touch with the drinking water/tea/coffee trailer.

Disliked Some large, very loud groups who made noise til about 3am

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are disappointed you had a disturbed night. We do try our best to keep the site peaceful. All campers receive a text message advising that we allow no loud music at any time and it's quiet time from 10pm. We checked the site at 10pm and no music was playing. The groups were all family gropus with young children themselves. When we checked they were just sitting laughing and chatting. People often don't realise they are making a noise as sound travels in the open. We are a farm, primarily, so don't have a warden. However, we do come along and speak to campers when we are notified of any problems. Unfortunately, no one let us know this time. It's our peak time and this was as busy as our site gets, it's usually much quieter and a nice family place to camp.

Excellent site and so reasonable

Local attractions

What with the Tyne Riverside Country Park (20 minutes’ drive) and Northumberland National Park (30 minutes’ drive) being so close, it’s time to get those walking shoes on for bracing hikes and gorgeous views. Chopwell Woodland Park (15 minutes) has plenty of easy walks along former railway lines that suit families with young kids. Cycling trails criss-cross Northumberland, with arduous options for long-distances bikers along the Coast to Coast Path, and waterside rides around Derwent Reservoir (20 minutes), which is also a great option for anglers looking for a spot of fly fishing. Lucky old golfers are spoilt for choice too, with several courses within a 15-minute drive of base camp. The historic towns of Corbridge (20 minutes) and Hexham (30 minutes) are packed with cosy tea shops and arty boutiques, and it’s only 30 minutes into Newcastle for big-hitting attractions like the Life Science Centre and Angel of the North sculpture.
