General

  • Spacious dog-friendly pitches on a working farm with sea views
  • Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island within a 20-minute drive
  • Firepits and breakfast hampers available on request

Newlands Farm is a peaceful site on a working farm surrounded by splendid Northumberland countryside and with the added bonus of views over the coastline towards Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle.

There are only a handful of pitches on the spacious field, so you’ll have plenty of privacy and breathing room here. Ask on site about good places to get out for a walk if you want to stretch your legs a bit more – there are plenty of great places to ramble nearby.

This handy rural location means that you’ll be away from the area’s main tourist hubs, but with easy access to all the hotspots when you want them – get in the car and you can get down to Bamburgh and Holy Island within 20 minutes.

Access to the site is nice and straightforward here: you can drive to your pitch if you like, or park up by the gate and walk on over. The A1 is just a few minutes’ drive away, so this would make a handy stopover point for those on long journeys north or south.

Facilities here are on the simple side, with just a unisex long-drop compost loo in the field (running drinking water is not available on site so you're advised to bring your own if possible; drinking water can be requested if need be). If you fancy adding something of a luxury touch to your off-grid break, you can also hire firepits or request breakfast deliveries – hampers include very local bits to cook, including bacon, sausages, eggs, black pudding and homemade beans.

For other foodie needs, it’s a mile and a half to Belford for a small supermarket and farm shop.

    Toilets

From the manager...

Hi Martin, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I am so sorry that the state of the toilet tainted your stay. This is the first negative review we have had regarding the cleanliness of the toilet which is really disappointing for us! Unfortunately the toilet seat was dropped down the hole during your stay and not replaced (which was unknown to me). Furthermore another guest had put their rubbish bags down the toilet which is absolutely not allowed and did not add to the cleanliness. The wipes that I provide to ensure further hygiene had also been dropped down the side of the toilet meaning they couldn’t be seen. All of these factors have been a complete one off and once again I am so sorry. Had I been alerted to the issues I would have fixed them as soon as possible. The toilets are cleaned a few times a week and as I said before, this is the first review of this nature. I’m glad you enjoyed the views. Thanks again for booking a stay with us, Lucy

The site has fantastic views where the ground is level, perfect for setting up camp. The ground was great for camping, one of the most comfortable wild camping spots we’ve ever been too! The compostable toilet was a wild camping treat too.
The information Lucy sent prior to arrival came through promptly and had all the information we needed to prepare.
We found lovely walks to Belford nearby.
Hoping to get back next year,

We could pitch anywhere in the field so we pick a spot away from the main pitch. It was brilliant, it was like having the whole field to ourselves. Loved that we could take are dog. Delivery of fire pit and logs and a lovely tasty hamper by the friendly owner. Beaches and Bamburgh castle only a short drive away.

The pitch is in a lovely setting, the views are beautiful. It was easy to find using the 3 words which were e-mailed to us before our stay. Central location to the places we wanted to visit. This would be a great place to stay if you are camping without children or possibly have older children.

    Disliked:

The long drop toilet, on the second day there was no toilet roll (we did bring our own but felt it should be available) the hand sanitizer had also ran out. On the day of arrival there was plastic wine glasses with wine still in them, just thrown onto the grass, there were 2 tents who had arrived together and they pitched up next to the toilet, which made using the toilet a bit awkward. This is the same group of people who had left wine glasses on the field. Come 11pm we could hear them singing welcome to the jungle, over their music. We had pitched up a bit further down the field from them. I know they are on holiday but the pitch is advertised as peaceful and we have very young children.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for leaving a review and for the fantastic photograph.
I apologise for the noise from your neighbours. Should you choose to come and stay again we are always at the end of a phone call and should anyone contact us we would try our best to solve any problems. I do clearly state in email prior to arriving that you should call if you have any problems, so I am sorry that noisy neighbours tainted your stay!
Hopefully we can welcome you back in the future!

Lucy's response to my enquiry was very fast... we only decided to camp at the last minute so she only had a couple of hours notice. She was really friendly and helpful when I spoke to her on the phone. The field was HUGE with an amazing view. We were the only ones there so we had the entire place to ourselves. The long drop was spotless and very well stocked with loo roll, sanitiser, surface wipes and sawdust.

    Disliked:

    Nothing at all.
As a few people have mentioned, the addition of a little stool (pardon the pun) in the loo might make things a little easier for some, especially kids. Personally, I quite liked not being able to touch the floor with my feet, as it made me feel like I was a little kid again 😀

The quietness as there was plenty of room, the view absolutely fantastic, the friendliness of the other campers and the availability when everywhere else was booked.

Also the owner helped me and my daughter find the site when I didn't manage to download the app which would have given me directions to the site. I am not good with mobile phones.

    Disliked:

I disliked liked not having any water on site. It did clearly say when I booked that there was no water on site so I am not making a complaint. I went ahead and booked because everywhere else was full. I am glad I did because otherwise I wouldn't have had a holiday.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for leaving a review and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The lack of water on site is something that we definitely need to address for the future, however, we do try and help campers by offering to fill water containers if they need. Perhaps using this service would have helped you out, but I apologise for the lack of tap!
