Summertime at the site

  • Peaceful and spacious park in the Vale of York
  • Nine miles from York via the White Rose cycle route
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of the pub in Great Ouseburn
Picture yourself in a classic English scene, basking with a drink to the pleasing thunk of leather hitting willow as you gaze out over the cricket green, followed by a relaxing stroll through pretty woods and water meadows. Should the above image capture your imagination, you'll likely approve of the setting at The Alders Caravan Park, on a working farm in the village of Alne and surrounded by North Yorkshire's gorgeous countryside. This is a good base for woodland walks and wildlife spotting… and, of course, the aforementioned cricket, which takes place on the farm. This peaceful and spacious park has been kitted out with excellent facilities, including two smart, modern (and pleasingly warm) shower blocks, a roomy covered washing-up area and a launderette with washing machine, tumble dryer and iron to keep your clobber in good nick. Barbecues are welcome on site, and at their finest when accompanied by beef, lamb or free-range eggs from the site's farm shop.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Loved this campsite. Welcomed as soon as we arrived and shown to our large pitch. Most campsites have an etiquette of parking arrangements and so when we parked we were sideways on with our awning facing into the large grass area as was everyone else. Very clear and informative details given of amenities and the local area. The shower and toilet facilities were imaculate. Cafe and shop onsite. There is also a cricket pitch with it's own clubhouse open at weekends. There is a pub in the village but check opening times as this varies. Bus route nearby to York 30-40 mins. We also caught the bus into Easingwold 15mins. Lovely village with cafes, pubs etc, there was also a central bandstand with entertainment on which we were told happens weekly in the summer. Lots of lovely walks nearby. This is now in my top 5 campsites and will definitely return.

Camping pod (five person)

Liked We had a wonderful weekend in the camping pod. The pod was clean and spacious and has lots of space to sit and eat. It’s a beautiful farm with lots of animals and wildlife, little woodland walks and plenty of grass for my son to play. We enjoyed lunch at the cafe on site and it was delicious. Plenty of washing facilities in walking distance. All of the staff are friendly and very helpful. We’d love to stay again next summer

Camping pod (five person)

Liked We stayed in a pod with a 7, 6 and nearly 2 year old. Very clean, quiet and safe for children. They loved the animals on the farm and the cafe for ice cream. We visited the park within walking distance and stockeld park. Would love to come back and stay longer, thankyou

Local attractions

In less than half an hour, guests will find all sorts of things to do: take to two wheels for a trip to York (nine miles down the White Rose Cycle Route), which is packed with brilliant stuff including the minster and Jorvik Viking Centre; steam through the North York Moors on a vintage train, or explore the wildlife and scenery of the Yorkshire Dales via Shanks' pony… Holidaymakers can revisit Brideshead at the Castle Howard (35 minutes) palace and gardens, be transported back to the sights and sounds of World War II at the Eden Camp Modern History Museum (45 minutes), and take in the grand National Trust mansions of Beningbrough Hall (15 minutes) and Nunnington Hall (half an hour), or the stunning walled gardens at Helmsley (35 minutes). If the kids start being beastly, you can always cart them off to the Flamingo Land Resort (50 minutes). This being Yorkshire, you're never far from a watering hole – and there are some cracking food pubs or inns nearby, including the pub in Great Ouseburn (10 minutes), Tholthorpe (five minutes' drive) and Byland (20 minutes).
