The Alders Caravan Park: Pitches are spacious and level

General

  • Peaceful and spacious park in the Vale of York
  • Nine miles from York via the White Rose cycle route
  • A short stroll from the pub in the village of Alne

Picture yourself in a quintessentially English scene, basking with a drink to the pleasing thunk of leather hitting willow as you gaze out over the village cricket green, followed by a relaxing stroll through gorgeous sun-dappled woods and water meadows.

Should the above image capture your imagination, you'll likely approve of the setting of The Alders Caravan Park, on a working farm in the village of Alne and surrounded by North Yorkshire's gorgeous countryside. This place is a fab base for woodland walks and wildlife spotting… and of course the aforementioned cricket, which takes place on the village green a short walk away.

This peaceful and spacious park has been kitted out with excellent facilities, including two smart modern (and pleasingly warm) shower blocks, a roomy covered washing-up area and a launderette with washing machine, tumble dryer and iron to keep your clobber in good nick. Barbecues are welcome on site, and at their finest when accompanied by beef, lamb or free-range eggs from the site's farm shop.

Very well organised, was greeted by lovely lady and we were shown to our pitch which was very well spaced out.
Lovely clean facilities, toilet and showers were very good and plenty of them.
Cafe looked lovely which I believe is new, but as we were only there for one night we didn’t get chance to try it, maybe next time

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike about the site, unfortunately the local pub was closed as they were on holiday so we couldn’t have a meal there as we planned, but that was nothing to do with the site.

This site is just so lovely with large, level pitches in a beautiful, peaceful location. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The on-site cafe has good coffee and delicious cakes. All facilities are immaculately clean and well-maintained. The local cricket club is in the site grounds so you can spend a Saturday afternoon watching village cricket. We really thought this place was fabulous.

We arrived late due to delays on motorway but were welcomed by a very nice gentleman who made us feel welcome. Made our way to the far end of the site, which was nice and quiet, all amenties seemed good and the site is very well kept. A very relaxed site and ended up staying for an extra night as the weather was good and we had the field to ourselves. Will visit again.

The site is completely closed off so great for children to explore and play. Large pitches with plenty of space around them. The shower and toilet blocks are very clean, the showers have a toilet and sink in so it is like a private bathroom. Hairdryer in the women's toilet which was fab. The area is very quiet but very nice, little village nearby with coffee shops, pubs, butchers and bakery etc. There are some nice parks nearby. The cafe is open on site now and it's the best Victoria sponge I have tried in a long time. Home made ice cream, jam and marmalade also available. There is a cricket club as you pull into the site with cricket on every Saturday. A Great watch for a couple of hours in the sun. All in all we would deffinately reccomend this site. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

    Disliked:

Nothing. Although, you may need a good length extension lead for the electric as the electric hook ups are shared boxes. Apparently they can lend you one at reception if needed.

From the manager...

Thank you!
It is feedback such as this that makes it all worthwhile.
Also very pleased to hear you enjoyed the Victoria Sponge! :)
Hope you can visit us again sometime,
Best Wishes from The Alders Team

Local attractions

In less than half an hour, guests will find all sorts of things to do: take to two wheels for a trip to York (nine miles down the White Rose Cycle Route), which is packed with brilliant stuff including the minster and Jorvik Viking Centre; steam through the North York Moors on a vintage train, or explore the wildlife and scenery of the Yorkshire Dales via Shanks' pony…

Holidaymakers can revisit Brideshead at Castle Howard palace and gardens, be transported back to the sights and sounds of World War Two at the Eden Camp Museum, and take in the grand National Trust mansions of Beningbrough Hall and Nunnington Hall, or the stunning walled gardens at Helmsley. If the kids start being beastly, you can always cart them off to the Flamingo Land zoo and theme park.

This being Yorkshire, you're never far from a bonny watering hole – and there are some cracking food pubs nearby, including Aldwark Arms at Aldwark and The Blue Bell in Alne. Visitors can also see how the local ales are made at the Black Sheep Brewery, which naturally offers lots of samples of its award-winning brews.
