Nawton Grange Camping and Caravan Park: Grass pitches

General

  • Small family-run campsite on a Ryedale farm in rural North Yorkshire
  • A 40-minute drive to York and 15 to the North York Moors National Park
  • Shops and pubs five minutes’ drive

A stay at Nawton Grange Camping and Caravan Park means you have all the benefits of being surrounded by glorious North Yorkshire countryside to discover, and yet you’re still within striking distance of ancient York (40 minutes’ drive), should you fancy a chance of pace and scenery.

A small, family-run campsite on a farm with cattle and horses grazing peacefully in neighbouring fields, Nawton Grange offers camping on level fields surrounded by the forested hills of Ryedale, which takes in the foodie towns of Malton and Pickering and the scenic Howardian Hills.

Access to the camping fields is down a driveway off a quiet rural lane, and there is plenty out space around the pitches for kids (and well-behaved dogs) to have a runaround with a ball in safety.

If you need to pick up bits for a barbecue back at your tent, you have a massive choice of local produce at Beadlam Grange Farmshop and Tea Room (five minutes’ drive); you can also stroll down to Nawton village (20 minutes’ walk) to a pub offering good food and a takeaway service.

From the manager...

Hi Julie

thank you for your feed back

you stayed with us for a bank holiday weekend , even though we were busy with electric pitches we were not so busy with none electric pitches so this allowed us to space out the electric pitches using the none electric pitches which then gave you plenty of space for you and your friends awnings to join together and still have space around your motor homes . When tents , caravans and motorhomes are all paying the same price per pitch i don't see why these need to be pitched separately .
Thanks Jenny

Location, pitches with plenty of space and able to choose where you stayed. Proprietor provided quality meat products and eggs on site. Lots of lovely places to visit not too far away.

    Disliked:

The site is obviously under construction so could do with showers blocks and more toilets. It's a bit basic at the moment. And definitely needs disposal site for waste water/products although I think these will be coming. Could do with some form of play area for the many children who were there.

Location, level pitches, (would be a bit lumpy if in a tent.

    Disliked:

Very basic. Tent pitches should be separate from motorhome/caravan pitches. The site is having a toilet/shower block built. This can not come soon enough. But looking at the plans for the block, i do not think there will be adequate. The toilets are in a porta cabin, only the loos, 2 urinals. Far too many people on the site for the amount of facilities available.
This morning I used the loos, they were stinking, the floor was soaking wet, I can only assume p***, as the site is bone dry.
The water tap to fill motorhome is to close to the entrance, I was blocking people from entering when I arrived and filled with water.
Also an electric cable was across the gravel entrance to the electric pitch side of the camp site. The guy from the tent it was going to, did score a groove for it to sit in, but with cars caravans and motorhome's driving over it an accident waiting to happen.
For the location, really good, but for the facilities, and the cost, for somewhere with no shower facilities, a bit on the expensive side.

From the manager...

Hi David
thank you for your feed back
When tents motorhomes and caravans are all paying the same price i don't see why they should be separated . Bank holiday weekends do tend to be busy everywhere i'm afraid . there are 2 water points on site if you had used the other water point perhaps you would not have held people up . the cable that went across the gate was to allow two family pitches to pitch next to each other just as you and your friends pitched together you also joined awnings together i'm sure there is not many sites that will allow this .
Our facilities on site are currently basic but these were cleaned 4/5 times a day but people do have to use the facilities .We have been doing our best to get our toilet block finished but unfortunately we have not got them finished for the holidays

Thanks Jenny
