What customers say

This basic, no-frills site offers a peaceful and clean experience with friendly, helpful owners, particularly Dylan. It's well-located for visiting York, with convenient park and ride access. While the single unisex toilet and shower were noted as a potential issue during busier periods, owners welcome suggestions for improvement. Basic facilities including electric hook-up are available. Visitors recommend arriving in daylight due to an unclear road entrance.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We arrived really late at night, we were able to set up and get some rest then caught up with the nice chap who took the fee next morning. We loved seeing the geese and hens with little chicks. The site was basic which is made clear prior to booking. The facilities it states are available are indeed available (shower, loo, somewhere to do dishes, electrical hook up). Really close to York park and ride which is very convenient

Disliked Absolutely nothing (other than maybe the actual idea of camping in September with not quite enough blankets - definitely a me problem, not a site problem)

Also recommend using what three words location and arriving in daylight as access from road isn’t very obvious

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Loved our stay. Enjoyed seeing the hens, geese and pigs. John and Dilan are very welcoming and friendly. It was only their 2nd week opened. Only have one unisex toilet and one unisex shower…at the moment. I am sure they will do well….definately will come back. 5 min walk from the bus stop to York, bus every hour only £3 each and £3 return. We did have a drink at The Siddings….if you love Trains you will love this pub/ restaurant ( only 5min walk) The national trust Beningbrough Hall is only 3.2miles away no problem if you want to drive the campervan there. We walked it ….no footpath 50/60MPH road.

Local attractions

Besides the glorious Minster, with a massive tower with far-reaching views over the city, York (15 minutes’ drive) has several interesting museums exploring such diverse subjects as its Viking heritage (Jorvik Viking Centre), the history of the railways (National Railway Museum York) and archaeology (the kid-friendly DIG). You can also walk along the medieval city walls. Piglets Adventure Farm (20 minutes) has tractor trailer rides, climbing structures and an indoor soft-play area with sand and ball pits. And of course, there are seasonal encounters with baby animals, including cheeky alpacas, soft ducks and chatty goats, plus the Piglets Maternity Ward. Built in the 18th century in the southern fringes of the Howardian Hills National Landscape, Castle Howard (half an hour) is an elegant stately home. Highlights include the chapel, featuring stained glass by pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones, plus the manicured gardens and 1,000 acres of parkland dotted with lakes and follies.
