Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

  • Spacious, well-maintained touring pitches a 20-minute drive from York
  • Piglets Adventure Farm 10 minutes’ drive; Castle Howard 20 minutes
  • Open countryside views; dogs welcome; village pub about a mile away
Almost halfway between the Howardian Hills National Landscape (15 minutes’ drive) and the city of York (20 minutes), Blossom Country Park has large and impeccably maintained touring pitches with electric and water supply, not to mention splendid views of the area they call God’s own country. It sits on the outskirts of the village of Strensall, which has a fish-and-chip shop and a couple of pubs serving home-cooked food, including Sunday lunches topped by humongous Yorkshire puddings. Those who insist on cooking (or barbecuing) while on holiday can source supplies from a couple of supermarkets in the village. As for local activities, you can practise your swing at a golf range just the other side of Strensall (10 minutes); within a 15-minute drive there are a handful of golf courses – and a couple of fishing ponds, too. If you would like to explore these glorious rural landscapes on foot, try Yorkshire Wildlife Trust-run places such as Strensall Common (five minutes) and Moorlands Natural Reserve (10 minutes). The former is an area of grassland and heathland where you might see (and hear…) birds like cuckoos and woodpeckers, while Moorlands has a circular trail lined with ferns and colourful wildflowers. Dogs are welcome at Blossom Country Park, but they are not allowed at Moorlands; however, they can run free at Flaxton Dog Park (10 minutes) or accompany you (on a lead) as you stroll around New Earswick Nature Reserve (15 minutes).

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and peaceful campsite with spacious pitches and helpful staff. Its location is ideal, offering a short walk to local amenities and a 15-minute drive to York. Guests appreciated the secure, gated access and clean grounds. However, multiple reviews highlight the shower facilities as a significant drawback, citing small cubicles with no drying space and occasional water issues. The manager has acknowledged this feedback and plans improvements during the off-season.

Silver electric gravel touring pitch (large, six person)

Liked Nicely laid out, clean & tidy.Easy walk into town from the back of the site.

Disliked As mentioned in other reviews, the toilet/shower block let it down. The site is a straightforward layout & the bins ,elsan point were easy to find but better signage would probably help for some visitors. There isn't a reception/small shop selling essentials but that's just our personal preference!

Liked Everything adequate sized pitch exceptionally quiet, well kept and the drive in is lovely down the driveway at the bottom of the site you can cut through the gate and it’s a 10 min walk to a Tesco and two pubs, when we were there there was only us and a camper this site is new and was a shame for it to be so empty as it is so nice

Disliked Nothing can’t comment on the facilities as didn’t use them

Bronze electric gravel touring pitch (six person)

Liked Lovely clean and secure site.

Disliked No site map so didn't know where we were going.
No signs to say where the elsan point was.
No signs on the outside of the toilets until you get up to the door. And they're really faded.
Showers are just mini cubicles no privacy or anywhere to get changed or dried.

Bronze electric gravel touring pitch (six person)

Liked Location is good for York, with good bus routes..
Clean and tidy.
Nice local Village with 2 lovely Pubs within an easy 10 minute walk.
Staff friendly.
Quiet site.
Good dog walk.

Disliked Showers were terrible.
Didn't like the "concrete slabs" that some of the pitches were on.
Bit of "Local info" would have been good..ie.. walks , maps etc.

Bronze electric gravel touring pitch (six person)

Liked The park looks amazing with hardstanding and gravel pitches and the shortcut into town makes it a 10min walk.

Disliked The showers are ridiculous 2 tiny cubicles in the toilets, either get up early and use the disabled or use one in your van. Glitch on there system meant everyone was emailed a payment request though it was already paid in full, I did pay it then a refund was processed.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (six person)

Liked Huge, secluded pitch. Lovely site, freshly renovated grounds. Would deffo book again. Friendly staff to greet us when we arrived and was very happy to help if needed.

Disliked Concrete hard standing was a bit worse for wear. You need to be very savvy with the way you pitch in order to peg your awning into grass

Didn't really use the facilities so cannot comment.

Gold electric hardstanding touring pitch (eight person)

Liked Large pitches. Clean site. Friendly staff.

Disliked Showers - too small and nowhere to hang clothes as it is so small and does not have a dry area.
Could do with a small shop.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (six person)

Liked We’re new to caravanning and this was our first outing, so our first stay.
I can’t comment on differences between sights, but this sight was spotless. So clean, well kept gardens & pitches. So quiet & lovely, very nice .

Disliked Only thing that let it down was the showers. They’re in the toilet area. No room to put anything, stepping out into the same room you wash your hands.
The water was hot, if you could get any. After stepping into the shower & starting to shampoo my hair, the water went off, little trickles which wasn’t great.

Local attractions

A visit to Piglets Adventure Farm (10 minutes’ drive) is not just for kids who are into animals. Sure, here they can meet ducklings, ponies and donkeys (and piglets, of course), but there are also barrel train rides, indoor and outdoor play areas, and an artificial beach with a huge sandpit and rockpools. With attractions such as the Gothic minster and the National Railway Museum (home of the famed Flying Scotsman locomotive), York (20 minutes) will likely keep you busy for an entire day. Stroll through the Shambles, a medieval street lined with independent shops and cafés, take a cruise on the River Ouse or head to the JORVIK Viking Centre for a primer on the city’s Viking heritage. The Arboretum at Castle Howard (20 minutes) has thousands of trees and plants from all around the world. Its 120 acres are also home to red squirrels. Then there’s the stately home itself, with its elegant interiors, including a chapel designed by William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones.
