  • Well-kept, peaceful Yorkshire park five minutes’ drive from Whitby
  • Robin Hood’s Bay five minutes’ drive and Scarborough half an hour
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus a play area and dedicated dog park
Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just five minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a café, bar and restaurant (opening days and times vary depending upon the season; there are reduced hours in low season) for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves. There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Enjoyed Sunday breakfast and sorry more people weren’t using it. Accommodated gluten free needs well.
Nice family feel with lots of repeats. Not too big so able to keep eye on kids. Great to be so near to Cinderella path and to cycle to Whitby, better to direct cyclists to go round the village main road to crossing rather than carrying bikes down steps at the farm.

Disliked No issues

Liked Shower and toilet block was well maintained and clean. The site was secure, tidy and well organised. The location was perfect both robin hoods bay and Whitby are close by. The cafe/bar on site was lovely and we enjoyed the takeaway pizzas.
Everyone was friendly and helpful.
We stayed with our 4&8 year old boys who had an amazing time and have said this is now their favourite site, the parks were great and children could safely play. The dog field was also a great addition to exercise the dog.

Disliked Nothing!

Electric optional grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Just returned from a brilliant stay at York House. Couldn't have asked for more from the site - it was spotlessly clean, well organised, the staff were friendly and helpful and facilities /layout were excellent.
We travelled with friends and two children - because of the size of the site they loved the freedom of being able to go to the park by themselves, and we all loved how laid back it was. Friendly but peaceful. Location was great too - we ventured to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and the local pub across the road. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely clean, tidy campsite. A bus stop is not too far away, that goes to Whitby , Robin Hoods bay and Scarborough. Ideal if you have a bus pass. The shower / wc facility are clean. There's also a washing machine and tumble dryer. Lots of play things for kids.

Disliked Been twice and enjoyed both times, but both time there was a quite a cool/cold wind.

In comparison to Devon & Wales this year, this site fell well short.

York house family camping pod

Liked Great location
Washer/Dryers looked decent
Drinking water and electric hook-ups seemed plentiful
Campers were nice and easy-going
Nice little play areas for toddlers and little ones
The guy singing & playing the guitar in the bar seemed really good. He played Stone Roses, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys etc, as well as he did, Elvis, or anything requested.

Disliked Pods:
Smell
Chewing gum and crumbs on wooden shelves

Toilets:
Not cleaned often enough
Soap dispenser not working
Showers very hot, and the on button needs pressing constantly (e.g. every 10-15 secs)

Shop:
Not very well stocked

Cafe/Bar:
Very expensive eg £9 for 2 mediocre coffees. (Asked for a double espresso, but it was more like a single.) Latte was also dreadful.
Not many choices in bar eg limited ales, wines and spirits unless gin is your thing.

Staff:
Ok, but not particularly welcoming.

Reception:
Terrible on the phone. Rarely pick-up. Do not respond to emails. Abrupt.

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.
