  • Well-kept, peaceful Yorkshire park five minutes’ drive from Whitby
  • Robin Hood’s Bay five minutes’ drive and Scarborough half an hour
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus a play area and dedicated dog park
Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just five minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a café, bar and restaurant (opening days and times vary depending upon the season; there are reduced hours in low season) for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves. There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

What customers say

This well-maintained site is praised for its ideal location, perfect for exploring Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay via foot, cycle paths, or nearby bus routes. Visitors highlight spacious and level pitches, clean facilities, and exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. The on-site cafe/bar and proximity to local pubs are also popular. Some guests noted pitches could be small and the electricity payment system incurs extra cost.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Nice quiet site and nicely set out

Disliked Didn’t use facilities as I normally would as showers looked very wet and looked like dirty water from other cubicles were mixed altogether.
No hot water to wash hands.
Husband said water was stone cold when used shower first night and same again the following so didn’t use them. Pitch uneven. Think price was high as had to pay for a dog and electric on top of it being £40 per night and poor facilities

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Location and short walk to coastal path connecting to Whitby and Robins Hood Bay

Disliked Our stay at this campsite was unfortunately very disappointing. When we encountered an issue with the electricity at around 11:15pm, the owner, Ollie, was extremely rude and unhelpful. Rather than trying to resolve the problem, he laughed and suggested we either move pitches late at night or leave the site altogether, which felt completely unreasonable.

Throughout the weekend, the showers were consistently cold, which made basic facilities quite unpleasant to use. Because there was no hot water, we were forced to rely on our own facilities instead, which meant using even more electricity—something we were already being charged extra for.

It’s also worth noting that electricity comes at an additional cost, and we ended up paying an extra £5 per day. Considering the issues we experienced, this felt like very poor value, especially when you’re essentially just paying for the pitch. The campsite is far from cheap given what’s on offer.

The caravans are packed so closely together that there’s very little privacy—you can easily hear neighbouring campers, even something as minor as snoring.

To make matters worse, the owner spent most of Sunday using an outbuilding on-site to practice with his heavy rock band, which added a lot of noise and disruption to what should have been a relaxing environment.

I’ve been camping for over five years, and this is the first time I’ve felt the need to leave negative feedback. I understand that issues can arise anywhere, but it’s how they are handled that really matters—and in this case, it was handled very poorly.

Overall, the lack of customer care, subpar facilities, and noisy, overcrowded atmosphere made this a stay we wouldn’t repeat.

From the manager: Hi there,

You failed to mention that you stole the electric point off your neighbouring pitch which resulted in the late night call out and because you were banging on the door of the person next to you, after becoming abusive and rude to our bar lady that in which she refused service to you or any help after this all occurred
Not only did Oli fix the issue with the electric metre after you said the point was broken, despite it not being. You refused to believe this and you then became more hostile to which Oli suggested moving pitch to see if the electric works which you were not happy with you wanted him to give you back the one you stole from the other pitch. Regardless to that fact yours was functional. When you were still not happy with this he suggested you leave, and even despite this still got your electric working

Due to your behaviour on the site we do not wish you to return

Kind Regards

YHCP

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Great and helpful staff. We arrived and someone was on our pitch. Was sorted immediately.
Short walk to the coastal path
Clean toilets and showers. We had one hot, sunny day and one wet and miserable one but no issues with cleanliness on either day.
Quiet and friendly vibe with lots of families.
Electric was reasonably priced. We paid £2 on the advice of the lovely bar staff. Much cheaper than paying the extra cost for an electric pitch on other sites and we still had credit after our 40 hours on the site.

Disliked There was an issue with the hot water on the first day but they worked hard to solve this and it was warmer on the second
Though clean, the toilets are dated and probably due for a revamp. That wouldn't stop us returning if we were in this area again though.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Great reception and very helpful. Clean and tidy and the food was excellent. If you have a dog like we did, the dog field is huge and excellent to let the dog off the lead for a run.

Disliked It would be great if there was a gate on the dog field, my dog escaped and ran back to the van!🤣

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.
