  • Well-kept, peaceful Yorkshire park five minutes’ drive from Whitby
  • Robin Hood’s Bay five minutes’ drive and Scarborough half an hour
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus a play area and dedicated dog park
Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just five minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a café, bar and restaurant (opening days and times vary depending upon the season; there are reduced hours in low season) for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves. There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and clean site with friendly staff, ideally located for visiting Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. Facilities are generally good, with recent upgrades noted. Electricity is charged separately via a card system. While most guests have positive experiences, some found pitches small or uneven and noted issues with shower timers or WiFi. The on-site cafe/bar is a popular amenity.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Reasonable size pitch, pretty level, option of electric

Disliked Didn’t like that the electric is prepaid making it difficult to know how much to purchase.
Dog poo around the pitch
Toilet roll behind the toilet! This practically makes no sense. Toilet/shower cubicles aren’t heated.
WiFi showed up as 1bar of signal but wouldn’t connect.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked Great stay here at the weekend with our Grandson (6), cafe/bar easily accessible with brilliant staff. The pitch we were allocated our electric cable was not long enough and we were moved with no issues to another pitch, children’s play park fall too wet to use would be lovely on the drier months. After reading reviews once booked I was a little worried but we had no complaints at all, toilets and shower block were absolutely fine, I think the people leaving reviews either have a vendetta or were expecting 5* luxury! Will be returning and the food on the Hare & Fox in the village was amazing!

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked A nice and tidy site with clean showers and toilets.
A comfortable club selling a few beers, we didn't try the food.
10 minutes walk to the bus stop, and then 10 minutes on the bus to Whitby (or 50 to Scarborough).
The pub is also only 10 minutes walk.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Fantastic site, friendly staff, large pitches, great facilities (clean too!).
Lovely clubhouse with reasonably priced drinks.

Disliked Electricity was quite pricey but worth it for all the other facilities. Electric plug in posts can become a little muddy and slippy after rain.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked The campsite is very well maintained and the staff were very welcoming. The electricity is very cheap. We ran a heated blanket all night with a electric fan heater for 30 mins on the morning and only used £1.20.

Disliked The toilet facilities needed to be maintained a little more. There was a broken soap dispenser and one of the hot taps didn't work.

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.
