General

  • Thirty acres of woodland a short drive from the A171
  • Easy access to the Yorkshire coast, moors and Goathland
  • Modern up to date amenities added by its family team

You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil…

But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that. (In fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite...?) It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby and has easy access to the likes of the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands.

And it's set on 30 acres of good-looking woodland, with a mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees, and has easy access for caravans and tourers… The on-site shop stocks stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch) and sells a selection of local provisions as well as Calor gas.

Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained loo and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

The park also has a book exchange service.

Please note

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Alsatians, American bulldog, English bull terriers, Dobermans, Huskies, Mastiff or Tosa.

Wifi is available at a charge, due to the location it comes in at 1Mbps so it is very slow and only suitable for emails and searches.

There is no playground for children, but there is plenty of woodland.

Lovely Park - well kept, peaceful and well organised.
Staff really helpful and pleasant, very welcoming. Plenty of room between pitches, so not crammed in to maximise the space and pitches have an allocated area, which is great, (so you know where you are). Guy came down to the pitch with us when we booked in, to make sure we got on OK, which was great. (Sorry, forgotten the gentleman's name !!!). Came and went as we liked as accessed site through barrier with a fob, which was really helpful. Pleasant surroundings and reasonably secluded with the tree planting around. Shower block was very clean although for me, it would be nice to increase the timer on the showers at bit, as although you could keep "waving" it back on, it did get a little bit annoying :)
Anyway, great place - would definitely go back.

Location was woodland so was bitten to death by midgies and mosquitos.

From the manager...

Hi, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear about the midges. I have been at Ladycross since 2010 and we are not know to be a midge infested site even though we have trees, I think water has a bigger hand in the beasties being prevalent.

We have a number of full time seasonal units on site and we have never had any complaints regards the midges and these seasonals return year after year, so fingers crossed this was an unusual occurrence in such numbers.

I think this year though due to weather conditions, the damp and the humidity has meant maybe more male midges coming out of the soil looking for females, this lasted a week, even I have been bitten this year which is very unusual, so my apologies that this fell on the week of your stay, in fact one of the busiest weeks......

Thank you again for your review.
