Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park: Open pitches in the sunshine

General

  • A 98-acre woodland site a short drive from the A171
  • Easy access to the Yorkshire coast, moors and Goathland
  • Modern amenities, nature trail and shop with tourist info

You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil…

But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that… in fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite…? It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby, and has easy access to the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands.

And it's set on 98 acres of good-looking woodland, with a mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees, and with easy access for caravans and tourers. The on-site shop stocks stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch) and sells a selection of local provisions as well as Calor gas.

Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained toilet and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

The park also has a book exchange service.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Alsatians, American bulldog, English bull terriers, Dobermans, Huskies, Mastiff or Tosa.

There is no playground for children, but there is plenty of woodland.

The long list of breeds of dog that are banned from there, such a shame as we would love to return but our child’s support dog is a German Shepard which are on to NO list.
Thankfully as the dog is still a puppy they allowed it on this occasion.

Beautiful location, very clean, well organised and well looked after grounds. Good location to drive into Whitby. Very secure cameras. We had a great holiday. An added extra would be to have somewhere for the kids to play other than on the paths, however we had a great time regardless.
