General

  • Thirty acres of woodland a short drive from the A171
  • Easy access to the Yorkshire coast, moors and Goathland
  • Modern up to date amenities added by its family team

You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil…

But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that. (In fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite...?) It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby and has easy access to the likes of the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands.

And it's set on 30 acres of good-looking woodland, with a mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees, and has easy access for caravans and tourers… The on-site shop stocks stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch) and sells a selection of local provisions as well as Calor gas.

Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained loo and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

The park also has a book exchange service.

Please note

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Alsatians, American bulldog, English bull terriers, Dobermans, Huskies, Mastiff or Tosa.

Wifi is available at a charge, due to the location it comes in at 1Mbps so it is very slow and only suitable for emails and searches.

There is no playground for children, but there is plenty of woodland.

This site and amenities are kept spotlessly clean in very pleasant surroundings. All of the staff we came across were really helpful. The small shop has the basic essentials, with a Sainsbury's and a Lidl a short drive away. Some excellent pubs to eat out also a short drive away. We found the site to be in an ideal location with Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Sandsend approximately 10-15 minutes drive away. The site was quiet even though there were dogs and children around. All dogs were kept on leads at all times around the site.

    Disliked:

The surrounding woods are excellent for walking, although we did find that after each walk we needed to remove ticks from our two dogs - not a reflection of the site at all but a mere fact of being out in the country side, just something to be aware of.

Some families who allowed their children to run around shouting loudly after 10 pm. Fortunately this stopped when the families left after a couple of nights.
