Pitches on site

  • Family-friendly rural site 10 minutes’ drive from Scarborough
  • A 15-minute drive to Dalby Forest; half an hour to Filey Brigg
  • Part of a 138-acre farm with roe deer and other wildlife on site
For those who can’t decide between coast and countryside, Prospect House Farm Campsite might be a very sensible solution. This small, family-friendly site is set among the green North Yorkshire hills and yet it's only a 10-minute drive from Scarborough’s beaches. Pitches here are in a field that's part of a 138-acre livestock farm, and they're all set up to be mighty peaceful. The pitching field is a car-free zone and your neighbours in the next-door fields are dairy and longhorn cattle. It's a popular spot for wildlife too – you might spot roe deer, foxes and badgers as you stroll through the meadows or head out on stone-walled bridleways. Campfires are permitted on site here, so set off for the village of Scalby (five minutes' drive) to pick up provisions from the store (handy to note the village also has a couple of pubs if you'd rather settle in for a cosy evening…) Back at base, amenities include a washing-up area, recycling points and a bathroom block with showers. Days out? Perhaps a hike through Wykeham Forest up to Raptor Viewpoint for the sight of buzzards, ospreys and kestrels flying overhead, or an outing to Scarborough, where you can relax with fish and chips on the beach while the kids dip their toes in the sea or jump between rockpools. And if you’ve always wanted to have a go at surfing or paddleboarding, this is the place for you, provided you can brave the chilly North Sea waters (though surf schools have wetsuits for hire).

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Beatifull campsite, all amenities clean, friendly hosts, little handy shop on site.
We really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked Just a little reminder for fellow campers: being out in nature, it’s always wise to check for ticks — especially after time in grassy areas. Part of the countryside experience, so come prepared and stay safe.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind comments about the campsite, our facilities, and the team. We're really pleased that you enjoyed your stay overall and appreciated what the site has to offer.

We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience with ticks. Unfortunately, ticks are an occasional part of being in the countryside, particularly in areas surrounded by fields, wildlife, and coastal grassland — something that can be the case anywhere in rural North Yorkshire and beyond, especially during the warmer months.

Our pitches are deliberately designed to retain a natural, meadow-like feel, but we do regularly mow and manage areas around the pitches and main paths to reduce the risk as much as possible while balancing the desire to maintain a natural setting for guests. That said, your feedback is helpful, and we’ll certainly review whether there’s more we can do in certain areas.
We always encourage guests to follow countryside advice — including using tick repellent, avoiding sitting in long grass, and doing regular tick checks, particularly after walking, playing, or camping in wild spaces. We will look at making this information more visible on arrival for guests who may be less familiar with the risks.

Thank you again for your feedback and also for sharing advice with future guests. We hope, despite this experience, we might have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

Liked Nice site in a good location

Disliked We happened to be pitched near the cess pit which was a bit stinky in the hot weather but that was just our bad luck

Non-electric grass tent pitch (family)

Liked Beautiful campsite with well spaced pitches and ample facilities.
We thoroughly enjoyed our little break from start to finish. The site was easy to find and the owners were extremely helpful. A special shout-out to Saturdays pizza night, one of the best tasting pizzas I've had in a long time.
There was even a little play area for our daughter's to play in whilst we pitched up and took a well deserved break after an eventful day at the beach.
We can't wait to return one day for a longer stay.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike !
The campsite and the owners are lovely.
We did feel like some of the campers on the campervan field were a touch noisy one evening however this was down to personal preference given our young children's bedtime and the rules were followed after the 11pm cut off for music.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review. We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you and your family had such an enjoyable stay with us. It’s great to know you found the site easy to find, the facilities just right, and the pitches spacious — and we’re especially happy to hear that pizza night was a hit!

We’re also glad that the little play area came in handy while you were setting up — we always hope it makes arrival a bit easier for families with little ones.

Thank you as well for your understanding about the evening noise — we do our best to balance everyone’s needs and really appreciate guests being respectful of the quiet hours, which you rightly pointed out were followed on this occasion. We always aim to keep the site as peaceful as possible, especially for families with younger children.

It was a pleasure having you stay with us, and we really hope to welcome you back again for a longer visit next time.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Facilities were clean
The communal fridge/freezer was very helpful
Loved that the pitched were mowed out and the spots were very specious

Disliked Not being able to bring the car into the pitch

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review. We’re really pleased to hear that you appreciated the clean facilities, the helpful communal fridge/freezer, and the spacious, well-maintained pitches. It’s great to know that these little touches made your stay more comfortable.

We do understand the preference for being able to park directly on pitches, and we appreciate you mentioning it. Our car-free pitch policy is designed to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere and keep the camping field safe and open for everyone to enjoy — especially families with young children. Wheelbarrows are provided to help move belongings to your pitch, but we completely understand it’s something that doesn’t suit everyone’s setup.

Thank you again for your kind feedback. We hope to welcome you back for another stay in the future.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything! Beautiful location, excellent facilities, lovely pitches with lots of space, really helpful staff, useful shop, delicious pizzas! Really close to the beach, but countryside location. Had a great time!

Disliked Nothing! Only improvement for us would be a little more on the playground for kids but that's just being picky.

Lovely campsite. Clean facilities. Staff member we met was lovely.

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful location, loved how much space there was - not the typical site where you’re pitched a stones throw away from the next. Very out-doorsy, good and very clean facilities. Scalby village only 25 min walk down a woodland type track, it was lovely. Owners really friendly and theres a little shop too which is nice 😊 will definitely return

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you loved the peaceful space, the outdoorsy feel, and the clean facilities. It’s lovely to know that you enjoyed the walk into Scalby village — it really is a beautiful route through the woods and countryside.

We’re also really pleased that you felt welcomed and appreciated the little shop on-site. It’s always great to hear when guests enjoy the atmosphere we’ve created here.
Thank you again for your kind words. We’d be thrilled to welcome you back anytime for another relaxing stay in this lovely part of the world.

Local attractions

Scarborough (10 minutes’ drive) has much more to offer than just sandy beaches and watersports (although both of those are excellent prospects). Other options include the medieval fortress, which has expansive coastal views from the grounds, or the chance to make a splash at Peasholm Water Chute – or an even bigger splash at Alpamare waterpark, where the kids can play in the wave pool and on the twisty slides while the adults treat themselves to a spa treatment. There's no shortage of active pursuits at Dalby Forest (15 minutes), which has cycling and mountain-biking trails (including a World Cup MTB trail), a Go Ape Treetop Challenge and forest Segway rides. Younger children, meanwhile, can have fun searching for the Gruffalo sculptures or building a den. If that doesn't give you your fill of wildlife, head to Filey Brigg (half an hour), where the dramatic headland stretches into the North Sea and provides a home to guillemots and cormorants, plus grey seals. If you strike it lucky, you might also witness the odd whale or dolphin swim past.
