What customers say
This well-maintained site offers a friendly atmosphere with clean facilities and spacious pitches. Its excellent location provides easy access to Scarborough and local attractions, with many praising the helpful staff and reasonable prices. While most visitors enjoyed the on-site bar, food options, and playground, some noted that pitches could be cramped, and occasional noise from the bar or other guests was an issue. The 20p shower charge was generally considered good value. Overall, a highly recommended site with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Great place for a small price! Would definitely come back.
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked The staff were very helpful and friendly. Toilet blocks were very clean. Play park is great for children. For the price of £25 for the night, I really can't complain. Id book again.
Disliked The music from the bar area was really loud well past the time you're supposed to be quiet as per the rules handed to you as you arrive. People leaving the bar or going outside to smoke were loud too. We were also told the BBQ area was cash only when we arrived, and we didn't bring any cash. No mention of this on the booking notes or email etc, so if you do go and want to use that area, take cash!

Clean facilities, but cramped pitches and a noisy, rowdy atmosphere.
Electric grass tent pitch
Liked The toilets were clean whenever we used them, and the regulars were lovely and really helpful when we forgot our pump!
Disliked The pitches were far too close together for our liking. We could hear the people next to us whispering, and our tent ropes were practically touching those of neighbouring pitches, which meant there was very little privacy and the site felt overcrowded.
There was only one toilet block serving the site, which was located right next to the bar patio area. We found it quite intimidating having to walk past groups of people drinking to access the facilities, particularly later in the day. The showers cost 20p to use, which we actually thought was very reasonable and not an issue at all.
There were very few bins nearby and the ones we did find were often overflowing, which made parts of the site feel untidy. We also felt that the advertised quiet hours were not enforced, as there was still a lot of noise, drinking, music and shouting well past the stated time and going into early hours of the morning.
The atmosphere felt more suited to long-term residents, regular visitors who clearly love the site, and traveller-style stays than the quieter camping experience we were expecting. We appreciate that this works well for many people and there were certainly some lovely, friendly individuals staying there.
Unfortunately, after spending the day in Thornton-le-Dale, we returned to find both our porch door and inner tent door wide open, with our chairs thrown onto the floor. Whether this was accidental or not, it left us feeling uncomfortable about leaving our belongings unattended.
While there were some genuinely lovely people on the site, there were also children regularly swearing, shouting, threatening to punch people and talking about fighting. There was a lot of loud behaviour, drinking and constant bad language throughout the day and into the evening. As a result, we felt unable to sit outside in the sun or relax outside our tent comfortably, as the atmosphere around us felt quite rowdy and unpleasant at times.
There is also a peacock on site which is very vocal and certainly likes to screech in the mornings to wake everyone up! We personally didn't mind this at all and actually found it quite amusing, but it is something worth mentioning for light sleepers.
Overall, this site may be ideal for those looking for a lively, social atmosphere with a strong community feel among regulars, but it simply wasn't the relaxing break we were hoping for. This may be someone else's cup of tea, but it certainly wasn't ours, and unfortunately we wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Electric grass tent pitch
Liked The campsite was in a great location with amazing views. Facilities on site were good as well. Although we didn’t use the bar or buy any food it was a good facility to have on site. Will definitely return
Disliked The only thing I wasn’t keen on was walking past people drinking and eating on the outside bar area when I needed to use the toilet/shower facilities
