  • Pop-up campsite overlooking Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire
  • Ripon 10 minutes’ drive, Brimham Rocks 15 and Harrogate 20 minutes
  • Off-grid grass pitches; playground and family pub five minutes’ drive
When you’re after the simple life in spectacular North Yorkshire surroundings, Abbey Falls Campsite comes up trumps. This no-frills pop-up campsite for tents and tourers is set right on the edge of gorgeous Nidderdale National Landscape countryside, and if that’s not quite enough, the pitches all overlook the fairytale ruins of Fountains Abbey, a gem of a place destroyed by King Henry VIII in 1539. As this is pretty much wild camping (albeit wild camping with gorgeous views), facilities are limited to male and female toilets, cold showers and a washing-up area – there is no hot water and no electricity on the site. There are dairy cows grazing in adjacent fields, a choice of walks along the River Skell directly from the pitches and a family-friendly pub in the village of Sawley (five minutes’ drive), where there’s also a kids’ park with a playing field. The historic city of Ripon (10 minutes) offers up an impressive cathedral, a brace of museums and lots of pubs and restaurants; elegant Harrogate (20 minutes) is also a popular dining and shopping hub.

What customers say

This is a well-loved, peaceful campsite in a fantastic location, especially for visiting Fountains Abbey. Reviewers frequently praise the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, which, although basic, are described as functional and well-maintained. The owners are consistently highlighted as friendly, helpful, and attentive. Guests appreciate the spaciousness of the field, offering privacy and room for children and dogs to play. Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Wonderful location just a few minutes from the abbey and Brimham rocks. The facilities are basic but well maintained. Plenty of room for the kids to run wild without disturbing anyone too.

Disliked Nothing at all.

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked It’s a very simple camping site, a grass field with different amounts of level ness, but you can choose your spot where available.
separate women and gentlemen shower / toilet
Building. Two toilets one with a shower, both had toilet rolls. in each women and gentlemen. Plus one sink with soap and paper towels in each. The showers are only cold water. But all was cleaned regularly. Outside there is a single sink for washing up. It is an easy walk to the west gate of Fountains Abby.
Phone reception strong 4g for calls and data.

Disliked Warning there is a fake website which unfortunately seems it can’t be taken down, it has everything at the site which is rubbish. the owner of the camping site has tried before to take it down but was unsuccessful.
We booked with pitchup and had no problems. we only found the fake website when actually looking for the location on the map. But as it is a pop up site meaning it only runs certain times of the year it is not showing on maps, but if you go to the post code supplied it’s ok.

Liked Fantastic little camp site. Amazing views across Fountains Abbey. Kind friendly staff. The toilet facilities were immaculate throughout and the site was busy over the bank holiday weekend. Good WiFi signal.
