Plenty of space

General

  • Working farm site with spectacular views over the Vale of Pickering
  • Less than 30 minutes' drive to Scarborough seaside town
  • Pitches set on top of the hill, surrounded by flat green space

If you’re after sweeping countryside views, easy access to the coast and miles upon miles of outstanding natural beauty, this might just be the secluded North Yorkshire hideaway you've been hunting for.

In the spirit of keeping things simple, peaceful and back to nature, there’s no entertainment on site at Quarry Farm... just loads of wide open space and utterly spectacular views. The huge grassy area surrounding the pitches provides kids with more than ample space for football kicking, kite flying and galloping around with the friendly resident dogs, and the pitches are set on top of a hill for fab views across the Vale of Pickering – south facing too, for extra basking on sunny days.

Handily, all the pitches have hardstandings and have been equipped with electric hook-ups, a water tap and drainage; supplies (including gas cylinders) are available from the shop a mile away. When you fancy a break from the toils of the camping stove and decide you're done with driving for the day, Ebberston's local restaurant – also a mile away – is a good spot for an evening meal, and a pub is in the village too.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

Surprisingly noisy. The farm also does steel building fabrication; this started before 9am some times and went into the early evening. Everyone needs to earn a living, but a real shame.

Loved the site with its stunning views and good pitches and low price. It's a great base for all the areas around. It only has 9 pitches so nice and the fact they are serviced for such a good price is great. It also has Wi-Fi and that's a real plus.

    Disliked:

It's a real shame the noise let's the site down. I don't mind the normal farm noises. It's a working farm after all. What is letting it down is someone running a two stroke engine maybe a chainsaw at 6:25 am. Then pneumatic concrete breaking all day finished off by a mow of the field ending at 8 pm. I tried sitting in a chair and drinking in the view to chill but no chance with that drilling noise.

    Panoramic view from 'super' pitch.
    Peaceful atmosphere after dark.

    Disliked:

I missed reading (at the very bottom) that there were no toilet / shower facilities.
Alarm call over site as farm work started at 06.30... plus cows mooing in field below.
    So much for a restful 'lie-in' !!

Peace and quiet plenty. (Apart from the cows) well kept pitches clean and tidy. Very reasonable fees for super service pitch so long as you realise there are NO toilets or showers on site so our shower etc was put thro it’s paces.
Location is good for coastal visits and the steam railway. Eden camp is only a 25 min drive.
    Good free WiFi
Can’t comment on staff as we never saw anyone for the week we were there. Our welcome consisted of a farm worker pointing to a gate to the field.
Enjoyed our stay but alas personally we won’t return purely based on lack of toilet block.

    Disliked:

    Lack of toilet/shower block.

Local attractions

Stacks of natural attractions and outdoorsy options surround the farm, the first being the Dalby Forest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty around five miles away. As well as all the walking and cycling trails that network the forest floor, there's an activity centre with paintballing, airsoft, archery, tree climbing, orienteering and low ropes courses.

The farm is close to the Howardian Hills, which is crisscrossed by bridleways and quiet lanes for horse riding and on and off-road cycling. The 14-kilometre mountain bike route beginning at Coneysthorpe has splendid views to the north across the Vale of Pickering and beyond towards the North York Moors, and there are options for shorter rides along this route if you opt to use the bridlepaths around it.

Pickering's narrow little shopping streets, ancient castle and access to the famed North York Moors Steam Railway are eight miles from base, and the seaside towns of Scarborough and Filey are both within half an hour's drive.

Must see

  • Dalby Forest Visitor Centre (4.0 miles)
  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway (6.8 miles)
  • Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo (8.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (4.5 miles)
  • Yorkshire Coast (12.1 miles)
