General

  • On a small farm with no passing traffic
  • Walking and biking routes very close by
  • A few minutes' drive to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Would you like to pitch up among Pickering peace? Farm the folks (and dog) out to Haugh Rigg Farm four miles from town, set in a peaceful and quiet spot at the end of a small track with no passing traffic – you'll probably already know that splendid North Yorkshire scenery is all around too.

Haugh Rigg is a non-working farm that sees peeps escape to it for a peaceful retreat, as it has walking and biking routes very much nearby – again, probably no need to point out the splendid North Yorkshire scenery... It's only a few minutes' drive to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and to yet more hikes and bikes in Dalby Forest.

Amenities include a toilet and shower block, a washing machine, and slides and swings for the kids; a small charge applies for using the showers and the washing machine. Starter packs with wood offcuts, small logs, kindling and firelighters for firepits and barbecues are available to buy on arrival.

And finally, as this is a peaceful and hidden away site, do look at online maps to be sure of where you're going: it's a quiet spot and doesn't shout out its location.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Location and nice and quiet. Not a large site which meant that their wasn't much noise in the evening No traffic Flat land with grass cut. Pleasant owner

    Disliked:

Didn't like that we had we had to keep our own rubbish and dispose of it. Lots of rules

From the manager...

Hi, many thanks for your positive comments , as for the negatives I hope I can explain.
Unfortunately disrespectful people caused that by dumping all sorts on me when I did supply bins and recycling, as for rules in the beginning there were no rules all I asked for was common sense and courtesy to others, but again people coming to my lovely quiet site and disrespecting my property.
Hence rules!!!
Pretty sure most sites have similar rules to mine.
Hope you can now understand.
Thanks Lorraine

location, toilets not clean dragonflies and cobwebs inside.the owner never came round to speak to us to see how we had settled in has promised.on arrival.

From the manager...

Well this is a different review!! All I can say is I'm so sorry my site was not up to your expectations, and I Will do my best to clarify for other readers.
It clearly states on other reviews I am in middle of nowhere!
All my other reviews say toilets are clean, I do my very best but cannot be 24 hrs a day stood outside them, dragonflies!! yes pesky little things that invade once a light is turned on, and I must have missed that tiny cobweb in the corner.
You arrived mid aft and I think I was pointing up my old barn which I am in middle of converting to a holiday cottage, I came down the site with you and showed you where to pitch and gave brief description of where things were, I very rarely leave the site but that night I was invited to dinner with a freind so I had no time to come and chat as I normally do, then in the morning you were up and off very earlier, (that is a 1 night booking hazard)!!
I do run my site singlehanded and care about my reviews but I do have a life too.
My motto...." You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time" !
Please accept my apology

Local attractions

There's quite a bit to do in the old market town of Pickering a four or five mile walk away: as well as plenty of shops and its Monday market, people also come to see its castle, the Beck Isle Museum and the medieval wall paintings at Pickering Church.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (possibly the busiest steam heritage line in the world, trainspotters) starts from Pickering on its beaut run through the moors to Grosmont.

Haugh Rigg Farm has peeps pitching up in an area with plenty of coastal opps too: Flamingo Land is eight miles away, Helmsley 18 and Scarborough 20; if you're off to the coast you'll also likely like a look around Dracula, James Cook and goth centre Whitby.

Must see

  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway (3.4 miles)

  • Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo (6.4 miles)
