  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities
Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite. This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land. Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Friendly host, clean shower and toilet, plenty of hooks for towels etc. Lovely quiet site with plenty of electric hookups.

Disliked: Local pub closed at 8pm so we couldn't have dinner.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nice quite countryside location. Not too far to plenty of pubs & shops by a short drive. Wash facilities are basic. And should it rain be prepared to wash outside as it’s not undercover. Showers & toilets are basic but perfectly adequate. There is a small fee to pay for shower but it’s worth it. £1 gets you 5 mins. If you want less time it’s just 20p a minute. Site owner was very helpful & always around if needed.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nice quiet campsite. With open space for the kids to play without disturbing anyone. Owner met us at the entrance and guided us to our pitch are, pitches aren't solidly defined, we were advised which area get full sun partial shade etc. Areas to avoid with the car (soft verges on the road) he even popped back to check we were set up ok. Facilities were basic but clean enough (£1 for 5 min shower) outdoor dish cleaning area.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We loved our stay here. Andy was very welcoming and went out of his way to ensure we were happy with our stay. We were able to pitch where we liked, and there a few smaller paddocks to choose from, so it doesn’t feel overcrowded. We chose to overlook the field of sheep! It was a joy to be in such a quiet location, surrounded by wildlife and with dark, starry skies at night. We were well placed to explore the local area, with Kirbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley all a short distance away. The toilets and shower were kept very clean, and there were washing up facilities too. We really enjoyed our time at Hobground, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. It’s gone to our number one spot and we didn’t want to leave! Thank you for everything Andy, we will definitely be back!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very friendly host whowas onky a text away for anything you need such as spare fire wood and fire pits. Plenty of toilets close by. Well kept fields, flat with no boggy parts. Ideal location for visiting pickering, Malton, flamingo land and Scarborough.

Disliked: No village close enough to safely walk too. Road leading from the main road to the camp could do with leveling however it did look like this was going to be done shortly as the materials where visible. Didn't effect our stay at all.
