Hobground Campsite: Pitches by the pond

General

  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities

Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite.

This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land.

Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

    -Flat pitches.
    -Dark sky, lots of stars.
-shower good size room to be able to get showered and change.
    -good location for flamingo land.

    Disliked:

-cold water for washing dishes but no facilities in our pitch area had to carry to another area.
-not able to walk to any nearby shops/pubs/park too far out and no paths on main road. No park, small wood but children immediately asked to put sticks back by the owner when they were playing.
    -no phone or internet signal.
-owner not welcoming, did not speak to our group only walked past, seen speaking to many other groups of middle aged people and older. Rude comment from owner when we asked for wood for the rented fire pit, apparently we should of asked earlier although had been on a day out not on site.
-no toilet roll in any toilets for one full morning.
    -over priced

From the manager...

This malicious review was made because I asked children not to go into the wood and tear off branches then drag them across the to their pitch. I was called at 9-40 and asked for firewood I politely said it was too late and I would provide a bag the next day.
No rude comment (why would there be when I was selling a bag of logs). There are five taps providing hot water inside the toilet block which is adjacent to the sinks and centrally located amongst the pitches.
Your comments :
No paths (county lanes don’t have paths).
An excellent pub is a short walk away.
There is no shops or park (read the site info)
Good wi-Fi signal from purpose built mast for campers. Mobile phone signal is good but dependant on provider .
This was the busiest period of the year and I continually checked the toilets and showers.
There was no period when any of the seven toilets were short of loo roll.
All of the comments are ridiculous and are not factual as other reviewers confirm

We booked this campsite for part of our honeymoon, visiting Yorkshire. We had very good communication with Andy the owner from the start, and upon arrival we were met and asked which paddock we would prefer to pitch up in. The campsite was very clean and tidy with the toilets and shower block being cleaned regularly. It was a beautiful setting, so peaceful, but with a pub within walking distance. On our last day, we wanted to stay a few extra days, and the owner Andy was more than happy to accommodate us. Really enjoyed our stay, and looking forward to returning next year!!!! Thank you Andy!!!
