General

  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities

Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite.

This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land.

Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

A charge of £1.00 applies for the use of shower.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Owner of the campsite we left night early because the way he was horrible nasty rude

From the manager...

wonder whether i was rude when you arrived early and I gave you the choice of the whole site to pitch your tent or was it when I noticed you had helped yourself to a firepit and emptied the contents out onto the path, when a payment was mentioned for the hire this was not received well,I would disagree that the rudeness was on my part. Any customer who would like to hire a fire is most welcome and able to forage in the woods for wood to burn as many people do .

Fantastic site for family where children can play and make friends 17/11/2018

As a family of 5 (only my husband that had been camping before) we had a fantastic time. We picked the site as we didn't want the children being constantly distracted by facilities and this was the perfect place. It is far enough back from the main road that the children could run around with the other children onsite without the fear of being near a road and small enough that they could be heard/seen at all times. They made lots of friends and played like I did back in the 80's/90's before technology took over.

The toilet/shower facilities were basic but more than adequate especially for the price of the pitch.

The manager was very friendly and couldn't do enough not only to help even providing extra equipment to guests even though it wasn't part of the services listed.

If you want huge wash/toilet blocks, shops/entertainment provided etc then go to haven. If you want a nice peaceful campsite where children can be children and make new friends whilst the parents relax with a coffee or glass of wine among nature and not overcrowded then this is the place to be

    Disliked:

Guests that turned up expecting more than was advertised and blaming the management.

Location - Whilst we loved the setting of the site we found it too far to travel for days out however this is obviously not the fault of the site owners. If we could move the site to enable shorts distances for where we like to visit us we would as with 2 children who get travel sick dosing up with travel tablets every day isn't great. If you don't mind the traveling then the scenery around the site is fantastic.

Nice campsite, separated into three fields and blocked any wind ... 29/08/2018

Nice campsite, separated into three fields and blocked any wind by a wall or trees. The owner made sure everything was ok, he got us an extension cable for the power and a fire pit to hire at £5 per stay, there is also a big chest freezer you can put your meat/ice blocks in.

Hot water and decent shower (only one shower though). Good location, short drive to surrounding villages and plenty of places to go walking with the dogs.

What a fantastic site! There are not many sites that allow groups or fire pitts (logs were only £5 a bag)
There was no list of rules, just a friendly welcome and a walk round the site. There was plenty of space between tents and the pitches were level. Bomber the horse was also very friendly and enjoyed a carrot or two! The site was very quiet and the views were stunning. The owners regularly checked we were ok or if we needed anything. We cannot fault this site at all and are already planning our next visit. The Sun Inn just down the road offer fantastic food and great value!

    Disliked:

The negative reviews left about this site! If you want glamping, go to a glamping site! The toilets were always clean and tidy. The washing up sinks were a great benefit, if it rains, wait till it stops, take a brolly or wash up in your tent! Want hot water, boil the kettle!

Everything! Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the site was lovely. The amenities were quite basic but well lit, clean (considering how busy it was being August bank holiday) and well stocked with loo roll. The site was everything we’d hoped for! We were a group of families and couples and had very thoughtfully been placed together in one end of a small field which we really appreciated. It was wonderful to be able to hire a fire pit and buy logs for it on site. We had a fantastic weekend, thank you!
