General

  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities

Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite.

This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land.

Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

Camp ground was clean and although they had wash facilities didn't have the chance to use them due to current situations. Fire pit and wood was very reasonably priced and a must for staying out in the cold.

Quiet secluded site ideal for socially distanced camping.
Three separate enclosures, we chose a south facing field with views over open farmland and a pony paddock.

    Disliked:

One small point- the chemical disposal point needs improving to reduce residue between disposals.

From the manager...

Thank you for your kind remarks,I must point out that the waste disposal point is self emptying as a household loo providing that is flushed with the hose provided.Placing other items other than tissue should not be done as the notice explains. Therefore assuming that this was a holding tank and placing waste upon waste was just compounding the problem. As there was only 1other guest during your stay I wish you had brought the problem to my attention and saved me an unpleasant unnecessary job.

Great campsite and very covid safe. Stayed on an electric tent pitch, grass in great condition and even though rained all night ground not too muddy. We had our own toilet with the facilities closed but disposal unit open which was perfect. The owner very friendly and takes pride in his site. He walks round to check everything ok for you with his two black Labradors
