Gateway To The Moors Caravan Park: View down to the beck from the pitches

General

  • Well-kept touring pitches on the edge of the North York Moors
  • Pickering, Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard within 20 minutes' drive
  • A mile from Kirkbymoorside and close to bus stops

Gateway to the Moors Caravan Park is, as its name suggests, just on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. This scenic hideaway is in the tiny village of Keldholme and surrounded by mature trees, with the River Dove on one side and a working farm on the other (and open countryside all around).

That means the views are about as rural as they come, and yet this site is surprisingly well connected: it’s easily accessed from the A170 and a mile from Kirkbymoorside, a market town with shops, pubs, takeaways and other amenities. There’s also an excellent bus service here (for outings around the Moors, to York or to the coast) and another bus stop in the village for jaunts to local towns.

The park’s hardstanding pitches are well kept, with views down the field to the river. They’re also supplied with electric hookups, and with water close to each pitch. The team here takes pride in its lawns too – the grass is cut regularly, and although barbecues are permitted you’re asked not to put them on the grass. Free firepits are provided for each pitch (or you can bring your own), and bags of wood can be purchased on site.

For extra safety, the site's entrance and exit are covered by security cameras. Free wifi is available around the entrance/exit area as well. There are eco-friendly touches around the place too: recycling is encouraged, and there are facilities for charging batteries and electric bikes on site.

This part of North Yorkshire is packed with things to do, and it’s a great area for walkers and cyclists too – handily, you can stroll straight out from the site through the woods to pick up local footpaths if you don’t fancy straying too far.

Please note

Group bookings of 5 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

A cable measuring at least 5 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Really enjoyed staying here, we arrived when the storm hit us, so had place to selves, had everything we needed for our caravan, and the owners just left it to us and just popping to say bye on the last day, only thing id recommend is we arrived in the dark very hard to find pitch as complete darkness, so maybe a little light post on each pitch, otherwise cracking little place

The site offered only 5 pitchers, which meant that it wasn't loud or crowded. The views and the walks are lovely and the owner is pleasant and accommodating. We have now returned to this site for a long weekend and will again in the future.

How quite it was and how Jayne made up very informative of things to do, places to eat etc..
We got lost a bit and Jayne came and found us to direct us to the site.
Everything was perfect we came to get away from the fireworks and although we heard some from a far it wasn't nowhere near as bad as being at home.
The surrounding of the site is such a beautiful view to wake up, we had no problems at all and will most definitely be going back next year.
Thank you for a lovely stay

Nice views, small quiet site only 1 mile to walk to town centre with dog friendly bars and shops. Had lunch in the Kings head Scampi was very nice.
It was dark when walking back to the site, we forgot the torch and the road is unlit very busy with no paths in some parts very scary...THEN we missed the turn off to the site and ended up a further mile along the road arrgghh NOTE TO SELF and everyone out there DON'T FORGET YOUR TORCH x

Hi Pamela,
Thankyou for the 10/10.
Sounds like you had a nightmare !! finding your way home. I can`t think which way you must have come back to not be on the footpath and then the verge just outside the site ??.
Anyway thank goodness you did find the way eventually!!!
A torch is definitely a must for later excursions at this time of year as one of the best bits of this part of the world is the total lack of light pollution .
Hope it hasn`t put you off too much x

Perfect as described with services all easily accessible where required. Only stayed one night but made to feel welcome when we met the hostess.Toilets would be a good addition but knew there weren't any when booking so not fault of the site at all. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your great review.
We probably need to review the situation regarding toilet on site which we may do as a lot of people mention it ,but it is the difficulty of keeping everything really clean when I am not on site all the time which puts me off doing it.
Thanks Jayne
