  • Peaceful rural site 20 minutes' drive from York
  • Half an hour's drive from North York Moors National Park
  • Easy access from A64 and close to bus stops for day trips
City break, rural rambles and seaside strolls all on your holiday game plan? Off to Yorkshire with you then, and a stay at Fox Hill Holiday Park, just outside the village of Claxton and within easy reach of all of the above, thanks to a rather handy location close to the A64. From here it’s a 20-minute drive south to the fab historic attractions of York, or around half an hour north to the North York Moors for hiking, biking, horse riding and steam train rides. Add in a day or two by the coast (an hour’s drive away) and refresh with a brew in one of the local tea rooms and you’ll start to have an idea why the locals fondly refer to their region as ‘God’s own county’. Fancy leaving the car behind for the day? There’s a bus stop very nearby for trips to York or to the market town of Malton, and a golf course within walking distance. The woods and fields all around are great places to stride forth too, for dogs (and humanfolk) in need of walkies. No lengthy list of entertainment facilities here to distract from the chilled-out country vibe (this place thrives on peaceful times, not parties), but the essential amenities are all here and well-maintained: wifi access, a food shop and a smart modern toilet block with hot showers and accessible bathroom.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers spacious, level pitches and exceptional cleanliness across its facilities. Visitors frequently highlight the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. The site is noted for its peaceful atmosphere and excellent dog walking areas. Its convenient location for exploring York and surrounding areas is also a significant plus. While most guests had an overwhelmingly positive experience, a few minor issues like occasional shower temperature inconsistency or Wi-Fi reach were mentioned.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked A nicely laid out, quiet site. Good dog walk and field, clean facilities. The location is well placed for visits to the various attractions around the area, as well as being handy for York and the retail park on the ring road (if you like that sort of thing). Lots a quiet lanes and back roads to cycle on.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked An immaculately kept grass touring field with level pitches and electric hook up. Pitches are really large, we pitched side on and had ample space. Just 300 yards from the main road, not that you would know as you can't hear it. Large enclosed dog walking field and an enclosed walk that goes around the entire park. Received a really warm welcome and later on during our stay we were invited to an event being held for Static Caravan owners with food and drink! We will certainly be back.

Local attractions

A day trip to York is pretty much an essential – or, even better, several day trips. See the big sights (the minster, the timber-framed shops of the Shambles and the Jorvik Viking Centre), but also make time to visit the National Railway Museum, take a boat trip on the Ouse river and grab a cuppa and a fat rascal cake at the famed Betty’s tearoom. For a blast of sea air, head over to Bridlington, around an hour’s drive away, for a traditional British beach day out with promenade strolls, funfair rides and donkey rides – perhaps even a spot of paddling in the North Sea for the hardier types. Outdoorsy types should make a beeline for the North York Moors National Park, around half an hour away, for walking trails and traffic-free bike routes across one of the country’s largest expanses of heather moorland. Husky trekking, rafting and ziplining are among the other options for active souls; those who prefer a more leisurely pace may opt to see the landscape from the comfort of a heritage train ride.
