  • Family-run site a short walk from the village of Cherry Burton
  • In the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, three miles from Beverley
  • Eco-friendly site with modern facilities and wildlife pond
It’s not easy to choose between the buzz of a city break, splendid countryside views and seaside shenanigans… and why should you have to? Settle instead for a sweet spot that's got access to it all, at Cherry Burton Leisure Park. Set across six acres, this family-run East Yorkshire site is handily located for visiting Hull (a 20-minute drive) and the east coast beaches at Hornsea (25 minutes) and Bridlington (35 minutes). Cherry Burton village, a few minutes’ walk from the site, ticks off plenty of essentials – including a kids' park, playing fields, a small supermarket and a pub – and the surrounding villages host a selection of food and drink places, ranging from traditional to Michelin-starred (if you’re feeling fancy). For some fresh air, get yourself on one of the local walking and cycling routes (including the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Hudson Way) and explore the area at your own pace. You don’t need to be a pro, but Cherry Burton has been on the route of the Tour De Yorkshire several times, so you know you’re in for a good ride if that’s your thing. If you’re not a fan of the whole back-to basics-approach, worry not, for the facilities at this place (including accessible showers and toilets) are modern ones… and eco-friendly too, with LED lighting and solar panels for minimal environmental impact. Keep an eye out for wild critters as you wander – they're fans of this place (and no wonder, given that they're well supplied with bird and bat boxes, feeding tables, hedgehog tunnels, bee hotels and a wildlife pond).

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The showers, the marquee where we could take our dog, the entertainment, location and friendly staff.

Disliked: As the showers and toilets are not separate I do think it would be a problem for those in a tent who are busting for a wee but waiting for someone to vacate a shower to go!
The shower/toilet block is spotlessly clean though and the best shower facilities on a campsite that I have used.

The site is developing and is probably the best option in the area.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Excellent quality facilities consisting of individual "rooms" containing a toilet, wash basin and a large walk in shower. However I doubt that there will be sufficient of these when the site is busy.

Disliked: The is site is "soulless", a big field in which ,strangely, ball games are forbidden. What families are supposed to do is not clear.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Everything, what a little gem of a site, the place is brilliantly set out, there is some work going on but doesn't impact the site at all. The greeting by Kieran was very friendly and warm, the facilities were excellent, having the water and electric together on the pitch was a bonus too, the toilet block was very clean, the best we've been to. The pub wasn't open, only weekend's so we've booked a 4 night weekend stay in July. Will certainly recommend to friends.

Disliked: Nothing

Electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Well organised, clean and quiet camp site with welcoming and friendly staff. The shower block was thoughtfully arranged as a line of individual units (shower, loo, sink) so this was private.
The laundry room had 2 washers and 2 dryers which was handy. The gentle ramp up in addition to stairs was handy.
The karaoke in the marquee finished by 11pm and there was no noise after that. The local takeaway delivered for a £2 delivery fee which was reasonable.
Good mobile data signal!

Disliked: Not a dislike but the gravel would have been a little hard for those unstable on their feet/wheelchairs.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Loved the site and the area. Very impressive bathroom/shower facilities. We booked on the day and managed to get a spot for our caravan, didn’t have electrics but amazing considering how late we booked. Reasonable price.

Disliked: The lack of bathrooms or toilets so if someone was having a shower you couldn’t go to the toilet as there are only 4 cubicles.

Local attractions

The historic market town of Beverley is three miles away – feast your eyes on the impressive Beverley Minster, a real gothic masterpiece, or wander to North Bar, a 15th-century brick-built defensive gate. When history class is dismissed, it’s over to the Westwood, a big open space ideal for picnics and post-lunch strolls. Beverley's also known for its racecourse, so a day of watching the gee-gees is an option; non-horsey types might prefer to hit the shops at the Flemingate complex, where there’s also a choice of eats, a cinema and an inflatable theme park. The site is within the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, so wildlife experiences are a must. Wander around Tophill Low Nature Reserve (a 20-minute drive) to spot otters, dragonflies and birds of all shapes and sizes, or visit North Cave Wetlands (25 minutes) – its six lakes and numerous bird hides make it a popular place for twitchers. If that’s up your street, you might want to stop off at Bempton Cliffs reserve (45 minutes), where around half a million seabirds gather between March and October.
