Cherry Burton Leisure Park: Bell tent exterior

General

  • Family-run site a short walk from the village of Cherry Burton
  • In the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, three miles from Beverley
  • Eco-friendly site with modern facilities and wildlife pond

It’s not easy to choose between the buzz of a city break, splendid countryside views and seaside shenanigans… and why should you have to? Settle instead for a sweet spot that's got access to it all, at Cherry Burton Leisure Park. Set across six acres, this family-run East Yorkshire site is handily located for visiting Hull (a 20-minute drive) and the east coast beaches at Hornsea (25 minutes) and Bridlington (35 minutes).

Cherry Burton village, a few minutes’ walk from the site, ticks off plenty of essentials – including a kids' park, playing fields, a small supermarket and a pub – and the surrounding villages host a selection of food and drink places, ranging from traditional to Michelin-starred (if you’re feeling fancy).

For some fresh air, get yourself on one of the local walking and cycling routes (including the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Hudson Way) and explore the area at your own pace. You don’t need to be a pro, but Cherry Burton has been on the route of the Tour De Yorkshire several times, so you know you’re in for a good ride if that’s your thing.

If you’re not a fan of the whole back-to basics-approach, worry not, for the facilities at this place (including accessible showers and toilets) are modern ones… and eco-friendly too, with LED lighting and solar panels for minimal environmental impact. Keep an eye out for wild critters as you wander – they're fans of this place (and no wonder, given that they're well supplied with bird and bat boxes, feeding tables, hedgehog tunnels, bee hotels and a wildlife pond).

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

It wasn’t that busy but it appeared the six toilets on site were not all open at one time for whatever reason.

Beautiful shower cubicles ... a bit too posh perhaps and not all were always open? Spacious pitches all equipped with hook-up and water. Pebble pitches with grass for awning - grass in need of mowing. Good cycling from site. Site appears to be still in the making as cabins were being built while we stayed. Joe welcomed us and advised where to pitch as reception wasn't open. In fact we didn't really see anybody in the three nights we stayed. On the whole peaceful although the road outside does seem fairly busy. We'll be back I expect. It'll certainly be good to see the site when completed and be able to use the bar and restaurant which weren't yet open. Would benefit from a WiFi service.

A level site with plenty of room. Close to the village for a meal at the Bay Horse. Near the Hudson Way cycle trail - one way to Beverley and the other to Market Weighton. Large bar area with pizzas, although they seem to decide on the day if they are going to light the pizza oven. Bathrooms with loo, sink and shower were clean and well maintained.

    Disliked:

Only 2 of the 10 or so bathrooms were open, which was OK, but could have done with at least one more open for the first couple of nights when there were 6 units on site.
Lots of building materials stored on the site and it seems that they are putting up new units, but the site itself needed a bit of attention. The grass needed cutting and the flower tubs and hanging baskets still had last year's dead plants in them. It's an ok site which could be really good.

Local attractions

The historic market town of Beverley is three miles away – feast your eyes on the impressive Beverley Minster, a real gothic masterpiece, or wander to North Bar, a 15th-century brick-built defensive gate. When history class is dismissed, it’s over to the Westwood, a big open space ideal for picnics and post-lunch strolls.

Beverley's also known for its racecourse, so a day of watching the gee-gees is an option; non-horsey types might prefer to hit the shops at the Flemingate complex, where there’s also a choice of eats, a cinema and an inflatable theme park.

The site is within the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, so wildlife experiences are a must. Wander around Tophill Low Nature Reserve (a 20-minute drive) to spot otters, dragonflies and birds of all shapes and sizes, or visit North Cave Wetlands (25 minutes) – its six lakes and numerous bird hides make it a popular place for twitchers. If that’s up your street, you might want to stop off at Bempton Cliffs reserve (45 minutes), where around half a million seabirds gather between March and October.

Must see

  • Ferens Art Gallery (10.3 miles)
  • The Deep (10.8 miles)
