Greengrass Park: Amazing

General

  • Quiet, relaxed site on 35 acres of land with a private 15-acre lake
  • A 20-minute drive to the Yorkshire coast and half an hour to Hull
  • Pizzeria restaurant, wifi, fishing and bar with an outdoor terrace

Get to Greengrass Park for a peaceful break in East Yorkshire countryside – this static holiday home and touring caravan site has noise and safety policies in place to keep its ambience serene.

The quiet vibes mean that it’s a calm setting for a spot of fishing at the 15-acre private lake. Non-anglers, meanwhile, can sprawl out in a grassy area for a bit of a chillout session or make a beeline for nearby coastal towns like Hornsea (20 minutes’ drive) and Bridlington (half an hour). Heading to Hull (30 minutes) for the shopping, museums and aquarium also comes much recommended.

Pick up essentials in Brandesburton and Leven, a couple of villages around three miles away with supermarkets, a butcher and a deli. For meals, your options include a Chinese takeaway and restaurant, an award-winning fish ‘n’ chip shop and friendly pubs.

Not that you’ll need to go far for food: the site has a restaurant and pizzeria as well as a pub serving ales, draught beers, spirits and wines with an open-air terrace looking out across the lake.

There’s also free wifi – fab for figuring out which attractions to amble around in the local area.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

No charcoal barbecues allowed.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Please note that the on-site club facilities are open between Thursday and Sunday in the peak season and on Friday and Saturday only in the off-peak season.

There are not enough good things to say about this site. Everyone we met were so friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough. Hubby enjoyed fishing, kids enjoyed the park. Stayed over Easter and they put on a fabulous free egg hunt for the kids. All the facilities were well maintained and clean. We were absolutely gutted to leave this morning and already planning our next trip!!! See you again soon. X

From the manager...

You cant get on the park without coming to the reception first as they is security barriers so you must have seen someone to let you in, also a key fob was issued to you on arrival as you give it back to myself when you was leaving, they was electric which you was plugged into plot 1 which is next to your pitch lakeside.
Reception and fishing tackle shop was open.

They allowed us to have a late checkout as nobody else was coming onto the pitch

    Disliked:

Toilet blocks were not regularly cleaned , nor was toilet paper or hand towels replaced during our long weekend stay.

Pitch had not been 'tended to ' we had a soak away that was overflowing, timber with nails and grass overgrown with nettles.

We were not provided with a bin or details or where to dispose of rubbish

Although lakeside despite our best efforts we had no access to a lakeside view. Whilst I appreciate they were reserved for those with permanent static pitches we had 0 opportunity to actually see the lake from our pitch and no way of public access either

From the manager...

1. Toilets are checked everyday.
2. Rubbish bins are placed allowed the park, even a big red Biffa bin is in carpark near reception which you must pass to see reception.
3. Our hard standing doesn't have a soak always as they are not service pitch's.
4. The pitch you booked doesn't have a lakeview, the lake was 20 meters from you where the fishing area is which was located and explained on the map at check-in.
5. Public access to the lake is the path next to the Elson point which you must have used to empty while you was here.

Toilets near pitch fairly clean. Bar staff very friendly. Left to get on with camping.

    Disliked:

    Just not for us.

Reception smelt of stale cigarettes which became clear was due to individuals smoking indoors when as we left in a man was walking in and out of the shop/reception with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. This is a very poor initial impression.

Bar smells fusty / damp, and associated toilets much the same.

£20 deposit for a fob which is fine but should be stated somewhere. By chance I had cash.

Security light by pitch kept shining through the tent and waking us up.

Not clear where fresh water should come from. Found a caravan connection and used that.

No washing up area that I saw which is no real issue for me as I camp with my own full facilities - toilet / water carriers / buckets for washing up etc.

Children’s play area looks good but looks unfinished.

Expensive given facilities etc on site.

From the manager...

1. Toilets are checked everyday.
2. £20 for a key fob is shown on all bookings.
3. security lights are placed around the park which as for people to see in our 15 acre peaceful setting, also in the tent area is no security lights.
4. water taps are located everywhere on the park. even one 10 meters on the side of the toilet block.
5. Pot wash is located in the laundry room which was explained on arrival.

Local attractions

Browse Beverley’s traditional market on a Saturday or swing by this town at any time to take in the Gothic minster and catch the horses hightailing it around the racecourse (20 minutes’ drive). It’s also worth setting off towards Skirlington Leisure Park for the famed car boot sale held on Sundays (outside of January) and to stroll through 70 acres of landscaped countryside leading down to the East Yorkshire coast.

Further north (around an hour) is the edge of the North York Moors National Park, where rural police show Heartbeat was filmed, and the location of well-known seaside towns such as Scarborough and Whitby (an hour and an hour and a half, respectively). Spend time on the former's sandy beaches before roaming the ruined Gothic abbey – the inspiration for the novel Dracula – in the latter.

Another famed urban settlement not to miss is the ancient city of York (an hour and 10 minutes) with its cobbled streets, Viking history and clutch of excellent independent boutiques. Walk along ancient walls circling the buildings, poke around a 13th-century Gothic cathedral with medieval stained glass and bell towers, then meander to the Monk Bar gate for an exhibition on the infamous King Richard III.
