High Farm Holiday Park: Evening skies over the wagons

General

  • Luxury glamping pods on a farm with amazing Durham Dales views
  • A half-hour’s drive to Durham, and 35 minutes to High Force Waterfall
  • Well-equipped, repurposed railway wagons, with woodland walks on site

How about a camping break with spectacular Durham Dales views? High Farm Holiday Park might well be the spot for you, a scenic, family- and dog-friendly glamping site utilising repurposed railway wagons – each one found around the local area and completely refurbished into cute and cosy pods decked out with stylish wooden interiors.

Set in the County Durham countryside on a family-run farm, the site also features developing woodland and wetlands with loads of amazing wildlife, and plenty of mown walkways for you to explore your surroundings. An on-site café, shop and board game library are also all available for your use.

Each railway wagon has ensuite facilities, including a shower, loo and wash basin, and they are kitted out with a double bed, smart TV, table and chairs, plus a kitchenette area with fridge, oven and everything you need to cook up a feast. Best of all, they come with a spacious, private decking area where you can kick back and admire your gorgeous surroundings.

Open all year, the site is close to the market town of Bishop Auckland (10 minutes’ drive), with its wide range of shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as the woodland walks and art trails in Hamsterley Forest (half an hour).

This is an excellent site for couples or families with children. We had such a good time, we plan to return in the future with our grandchildren as we know it would be great for them too. The owners have built the site from scratch, with love and attention to detail. The facilities are clean, well maintained and staff are available to help and answer any questions you may have. The site is close to many local attractions as well as having the small petting farm and playground on the site itself. The views from the pitches are outstanding and its a quiet and peaceful location.

We stayed at High Farm as we were visiting family who live locally. The site was quiet and well kept with beautiful views. We were met on arrival by the owner who explained everything we needed to know. We tried the on site cafe for breakfast and weren't disappointed with the food. The staff were friendly and always had a kind word and time for a quick chat. Our granddaughter couldn't get enough of the resident animals (her favourites were the rabbits and guinea pig) or the play park . Overall we're happy to give this site 5 stars and we will definitely be using this as a base to visit family in the future.
