  • Wild camping at a secluded Suffolk grassland site
  • A 10-minute drive from Ipswich and Woodbridge; 15 from Sutton Hoo
  • Dog-friendly site five minutes' drive from village shop and pub
Those seeking simple seclusion in the Suffolk countryside should take a look the offerings at Grundisburgh Wild Camping. This is a site that’s lined with mature trees and surrounded by fields to give that real feeling of rural escapism, and with a stream running along the bottom edge for an extra touch of countryside charm. Wild camping is the name of the game here: pitches are spread around in the long grass, so there’s plenty of peace and privacy for all guests. Facilities are minimal, as you’d expect from a wild camping site, but there is a portable toilet close to the pitches. Dogs are welcome to join you on breaks here – they’re likely to appreciate the fact that there are several footpaths running through the surrounding area that can be joined directly from the site (also something of a bonus for guests without dogs, of course…) Barbecues are permitted as well, as long as you’re careful with positioning them safely. Stock up on supplies for your meals at the village shop in Grundisburgh, five minutes’ drive away – there’s also a pub in the village if you’d rather someone else did the cooking. For more shops, pubs and places to eat, Ipswich and Woodbridge are both about 10 minutes’ drive away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really nice location, beautiful. Had a lovely time, saw a barn owl at night.

Disliked: Quite expensive for what it is, especially as there is no drinking water.
