  • Quiet and family-run campsite 10 minutes’ drive from the Suffolk coast
  • Southwold, Oulton Broad watersports and Beccles all 15 minutes’ drive
  • Accessible facilities; Wrentham café, pub and shop five minutes’ drive
Seeking a peaceful Suffolk sojourn? At Henstead Fields Caravan and Campsite, you’re in the right spot for family fun (dogs included), local walks, scenic cycle rides or chilling on a North Sea beach – the closest is Kessingland, barely 10 minutes’ drive away, while the pretty seaside town of Southwold is 15 minutes by car. This family-run site is on the outskirts of Henstead village in North Suffolk; you can pitch up or park up on the camping field with plenty of space around you for privacy. Amenities include a disabled toilet and shower alongside separate male and female facilities, plus a washing-up area where pitch allocations are displayed. The field has more than enough green space for games with family and friends, but just keep an eye open for uneven ground while you’re running around. It’s also very rural, so you have the resident owls, muntjacs and pheasants for company – and on clear nights, the stars put on a spectacular display. As for catering, barbecues are allowed on site; there’s a convenience store and deli five minutes’ drive away in Wrentham if you need to buy in supplies. When you can’t face cooking, there’s also a café and pub in the village, and takeaways can be delivered to your pitch.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really spacious pitches so didn't feel close to anyone else staying there. Owner came and spoke to everyone in the evening. Very welcoming and gave some great tips on things to do in the area. Lovely clean facilities. Dog exercise area was a brilliant addition

Disliked That we only booked 1 night.

From the manager: Thanks for the great review. We’re glad you enjoyed the spacious pitches and the peaceful feel of the site. It was lovely to have a chat with you and hopefully the tips for the local area helped you make the most of your stay. Great to hear you liked the facilities and the dog exercise area too. We’ll have to make sure you book for more than one night next time!
Enjoy the remainder of the summer, Sarah and Callum

Liked Quiet & all the amenities you need. Showers were nice & spacious & had a great little dog park . Owners very nice & helpful.

Disliked Perhaps a bit more lighting in the evenings but wouldnt stop us going again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review and for your kind comments about the peaceful site, spacious showers and dog park. We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found us friendly and helpful. Thank you also for the feedback about the lighting. We deliberately keep the lighting fairly low in the evenings as we’re fortunate to be in a Dark Sky area, and the stars here really are something special! There is still lighting around the site, but we’ll make a point of reminding guests to bring a torch for those evening trips around the site. We’re delighted to hear that you’d come back again and hope to see you another time! Best wishes, Sarah and Callum

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked The site was lovely, very peaceful, beautifully maintained, facilities clean and modern and the owner came to see us not long after we arrived and just before we left, really friendly and gave us some great tips on shady spots to walk our dog too. This was our first ever camping trip and as a family of 4 with a dog we were nervous because we weren't sure if camping would be for us. Henstead Fields was a brilliant choice and we'll definitely be booking again.
We chose an electric pitch for our tent and were also very pleasantly surprised to find that every electric pitch also had its own drinking water tap.
The owners also got in touch a few days before with our pitch number, a handy video showing us how to use the electric at the pitch and details so that we could order cupcakes or other baked goods to be delivered to our stand during the weekend! The detailed PDF we were sent before arrival also listed tons of local businesses and services we might need or be interested in during our stay. Our dog loved being able to go off lead in the enclosed dog run too.
We've already recommended the site to friends and family and we only got home yesterday!
Couldn't ask for more, thank you for being such a lovely site for our first ever camping trip!

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a wonderful and detailed review! It really means a lot to hear that you enjoyed your first ever camping trip with us, and we’re especially pleased that Henstead Fields helped make the experience a relaxing and enjoyable one for the whole family (including your dog!).

It’s lovely to know that you found the site peaceful and well maintained, and that all the little extras before and during your stay were useful. We always try to make arriving and settling in as easy as possible, so we’re delighted that the pitch information, local recommendations and pre-arrival guide came in handy.

Thank you for already recommending us to friends and family — that really is the best compliment we could receive. We’d absolutely love to welcome you back for camping trip number two!

Many thanks,
Sarah and Callum

Local attractions

There’s bags going on for the whole family in lively Southwold (15 minutes’ drive); you can take high-speed boat rides around the North Sea coastline, discover the amusements along the famed pier, or have a potter around the old harbour. Adnams Brewery is open for guided tours and tastings of its wares, and also offers the chance to explore the landmark lighthouse that dominates the town. If you’re into high-octane action, try skydiving at Ellough (10 minutes) but if that sounds a bit scary, book hacks at the local riding school (five minutes) or make for Oulton Broad (15 minutes) for kayaking and sailing. You can also go paddleboarding along the River Waveney from Beccles (15 minutes). Get (quite) up close and personal with Big Five animals like lions and rhinos at Africa Alive (10 minutes), or sneak a bit of history into your kids with visits to Framlingham Castle (40 minutes) and the eccentric Tudor-era Orford Tower (45 minutes). If your offspring are still game on for more culture, Somerleyton Hall (half an hour) has colourful landscaped gardens and impressive Victorian architecture.
