General

  • Six coarse fishing ponds on a small family-run farm
  • In a walker's paradise a few miles from the Suffolk coast
  • Shop on site selling bait

Fancy some farm fishing? Field Farm Fisheries is a small, family-run and friendly farm in Wrentham, Suffolk, stuffed to the gills with coarse fish over its six good-sized fishing ponds.

The farm is also a top spot for wanders, as it has easy access to excellent walks nearby, and for coastal and seaside days, as the Suffolk coast is only a few miles away. Southwold, Walberswick, Halesworth and Beccles are all within a short drive.

The well-kept amenities at this peaceful place include two showers, toilet blocks, hot water taps, a washing-up sink, a fresh water supply and a chemical waste disposal point.

The angling on site covers all ages and ability levels; there's also a shop on site with a good selection of bait and tackle maggots.

Excellent site - good facilities, well kept & hot hot water! 31/08/2017

Excellent site - very secure & well kept. Toilets were good - plenty of space and super hot water. Shower was on £1 meter but lasted long enough for a thorough shower for just the one pound. Washing up facilities - again with super hot water.
Pitching tent had slight slope but able to find a level pitch easy enough.
Great location - just a 10 min drive to Southwold; local village has small shop, pub & cafe which do the most amazing cooked breakfast for a very reasonable cost.
Host was polite, pleasant & informative on our arrival.

    Disliked:

    Nothing - all good
Did struggle with phone connection but apparently local issue not just site. Vodaphone works well. EE doesn't

hopefully see you again soon or next season all the best

We would come back again only when the shower toilet block is improved 30/08/2017

Bank holiday weekend very busy however site clean tidy and no litter.
We sat in a group enjoying the open site clear night sky and very little noise from the main A12 road which the site runs close too.
Owners very nice and a warm welcome on arrival along with advice on local shops etc
We do not fish however the lakes look well stocked and established with numbered stations.
All in all for the price per night great value and also 15 mins drive to Southwould
We hope to come back again once the dislikes are addressed

    Disliked:

Camping shower block was past is use by day one shower and toilet in the mens and believe similar in the women's as my partner advised. Not very nice /pleasant experience.
"Fishermens"toilet block worst I have ever seen smelly and I seen better on building sites with no hot water to wash your hands with.
Please upgrade the facility sure it would bring back repetitive customers we all said in our group happy to pay per night more for better shower and toilet facilities.
Also washing up sink area strong smell from the chemical disposal point .
Electrical point in toilet block or hair drier even if is on a meter payment is very much in need especially in the women's shower block as my partner missed hair drying facilities.

From the manager...

thank you for taking the time to leave us a review glad you enjoyed some things on the site
As we have stated before if we build a new shower and toilet block we would be charging between £25-£30 a night
there is hot water in the camper shower and toilet block you are quite right there is no hot water in the fisher men's toilet
With it being a very very busy weekend you will get a smell coming from the stench pipe
We do find the more facilities we give the more they get mistreated
Campers on average are playing just £12 a night and most campers have said they will not pay more even if we had better facilities

Not sure why you weren't happy with the location it is in the countryside
The A12 is not far away but have spoken to many other customers and all they say you can hear a small noise in the background certainly not noisy from their point of view

Good location, lots of room to camp, friendly owner

    Disliked:

Unfortunately we had some very noisy neighbours, they were shouting and swearing in the middle of the night the first night and they had a loud generator that they had decided to point down towards the rest of the campsite rather than out toward the field behind. They also let their dogs run around everywhere and bark constantly.

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving a review all I can do is apologise about some of the other campers it's very hard for us when we book people in to know what they are going to be like the generation should of been turned off at reasonable time and being of the silent type as they were told when I arrived all dogs should have been kept on the lead apart from on the dog walking field
if there's a problem we do like you to come and tell us so I can deal with it then and there so that everybody can enjoy this day

Came 3 weeks thoroughly enjoyed it so decided to go back for the bank holiday.
Love the place and area so much. Great site to pitch up and then tour the area

    Disliked:

Large group of families together - noise till 2am, about 8 dogs barking constantly. Constant swearing. All from same group.

Yes we want a lot of fun on holiday, but there's a limit

From the manager...

Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay so much this time all campsites are extremely busy for the bank holiday weekend it's hard to know if groups are quiet or noisy if you could of come and told me I could've had a word with some of the groups and told them to keep the noise down or alternatively if you would've had a word with me I could've moved you to a different area on the field
I do try and walk round the field in the evenings to make sure everything is okay with everyone
Hope this hasn't put you off coming again

Local attractions

Among the Field Farm Fisheries family's most topping local picks is a day at Southwold a few miles away, for the local brewery tours, beach, museum and spectacular Southwold Pier. The town's Henham Park is also the venue for the theatre events, dance, film, cabaret and more at the annual Latitude Festival.

Southwold is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, covering towns including Aldburgh and Dunwich as well as marsh, heathland and shingle beach. The AONB is crossed by three long-distance walking trails: the Suffolk Coast Path, the Sandlings Walk and the Stour and Orwell Walk.

For a sandy beach day, head to the coastal town of Great Yarmouth (at the mouth of the River Yare, geddit?), or to the two beaches and harbour of Lowestoft, the North Sea town that's the most easterly settlement in the UK.

If you're yearning for more outdoors, Britain’s biggest wetland the Broads National Park is a spiffing nearby option for boating, biking, hiking and wildlife watching along its seven rivers, 63 broads, 28 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and eight national nature reserves.

Or have a themed family day out at Pleasurewood Hills theme park and Africa Alive! wildlife park, both within a short drive.

Must see

  • Somerleyton Hall and Gardens (9.7 miles)
  • Fritton Lake Country World (11.2 miles)
  • Pleasure Beach (15.3 miles)
