  • Well-maintained, landscaped adults-only park near Polstead in Suffolk
  • A 20-minute drive to Lavenham, and 25 minutes to Ipswich Waterfront
  • Essentials shop on site; food pub five minutes’ walk away
Its rural location on the edge of a Suffolk conservation area ensures visitors to Polstead Country Park have plenty to do during their stay. The pretty village of Polstead is five minutes’ drive away, and walkers have access to a network of footpaths from there, taking in ancient woodland scattered with bluebells in spring, while overnighting cyclists can pick on the South Suffolk Cycle Route with a 10-minute ride from the park. If you've brought the car, your options widen even further – animal parks, stately homes and beaches are all within half an hour’s drive. Landscaped with flowers, neat hedges and shady mature trees, the pitches at this adults-only site are generously sized and immaculately maintained. Spotless modern facilities include shower facilities with underfloor heating and a dedicated accessible bathroom, while washing-up sinks and a laundry area make it easy to keep everyone and everything looking shipshape. The friendly staff at reception can let you have all sorts of information on the local area and places to visit, and there’s also a small site shop stocked with essentials. If you fancy a break from cooking, there’s a foodie pub within five minutes’ walk and other options in Polstead village.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Individual level pitches with hedges separating, we had a very beautiful secluded grass pitch and were visited by lots of little birds, lovely walk to the Cock Inn pub for a drink, spotless chemical waste at a perfect height. Showers and toilets were clean, loved the radio playing. Had a message the day before confirming our arrival time and met at the gate on arrival by the lovely owner.

Disliked: Bit of road noise, tight to manoeuvre caravan through gap in hedge to the area we were in, wash up area light didn’t always come on early evening.

We have had an electrician replace the lights so hopefully they will work correctly now.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Any site that has heated flooring, somewhere to sit/get dressed and playing Pink Floyd on the sound system in their toilets gets 10/10 from me, a very tidy and well looked after "Adult only" site, in a very nice country location near several places of interest (and a nearby "walkable" pub).

Disliked: The only small criticisms are, I wish the site management would clamp down on some very noisy dogs owners, who seemed to be aloof to the annoyance their pets were causing.
and some traffic noise but nothing some ear plugs couldn't resolve.

I'm sorry you had issues with barking dogs and wish you would have spoken to us at the time and we would have addressed it.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: the site is well maintained with friendly owners, the shower block is in the centre of the main site, there is a keycode barrier and privacy hedges between most pitch's and free wi-fi. We had a meal at The Brewers Arms and it was really nice.

Disliked: The only two small gripes are there is road noise from the nearby A1071 and without the managers discount the pitch fee would have been more than we normally pay

Local attractions

Pretty Suffolk villages to explore include Kersey (five minutes’ drive) with its half-timbered houses and thatched cottages, while Lavenham (20 minutes) has a stunning guildhall and fine 14th-century church. For a bit of a date night, Ipswich (25 minutes) has lots of bars and restaurants along its lively waterfront, as well as a theatre and cinema. There are pretty country yomps along the River Stour to Flatford Mill (25 minutes) and Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes) in Constable Country. You can see another artist’s house on the walking trail from National Trust-owned Melford Hall (20 minutes) to Sudbury (15 minutes), which takes in three old water mills and Thomas Gainsborough’s house en route. Looking for animal encounters on your rural break? Feed lambs (in season), groom horses and cuddle up to friendly donkeys at Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, or get up close to the reptiles, creepy crawlies and butterflies at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park (both half an hour). Or how about touring a couple of local vineyards? Giffords Hall (half an hour) and Burnt House (45 minutes) are both open for tours and tastings – it’s best to book in advance.
