Camping pods in the suffolk countryside (added by manager 03 feb 2022)

  • Glamping site set in 10 acres of grassland overlooking a fishing lake
  • Lavenham 15 minutes' drive; Bury St Edmunds 25 minutes
  • Luxury camping pods with kitchen, private seating and barbecue
When not just any pod will do, take a look at Kettles Farm Glamping, a laidback spot in the middle of the quiet Suffolk countryside. Located approximately six miles from the historic town of Lavenham and 10 miles from the many amenities of Bury St Edmunds, these well-appointed pods are surrounded by 10 acres of grassland with views over a fishing lake. Inside, each pod comes equipped with hot and cold water, electricity, heating, bedding, washing-up equipment, crockery and cutlery, a fridge and freezer, a microwave, a kettle and a toaster. They all have a private decking area too, where a barbecue and firepit are provided for your personal use (either bring your own charcoal/firewood or buy it from the site team). Fishing enthusiasts can head down to the lake, which is well-stocked with carp, roach and rudd. You can spend time in the fresh air in other ways too, whether that's taking a 20-minute stroll into the pleasant village of Rattlesden (where there is a shop, post office and two pubs) or visiting the farm five minutes away where you can stock up on the finest grass-fed beef for your barbecue.

Woodpecker camping pod (four person)

Liked: Lovely hosts, welcoming and very helpful. Great POD - stayed in Woodpecker and it was warm, clean & cosy and everything we needed for our stay. Fire pit, bbq and 2 sets of outdoor eating areas (very generous) firewood with kindling & firelighters bought onsite and brought over by Carole. Excellent private shower rooms, which include a toilet with sink. Large communal kitchen with electric hobs, large microwave and washing up area. If you don’t want to cook in your pod. Wi Fi was strong. We streamed a couple of late night films. 9 acres around you. Dog friendly. Over looking Lovely fishing lake. Lots of swims to fish off. My mum stayed in her motorhome & they allowed her to pitch with us. They also helped mum out of a ditch when she first arrived and Will kindly drove her off the field as it had rained a lot. We were super lucky & had the site to ourselves but even if there were others in the pods there is plenty of space.

Disliked: * Being with young children, the open water was a concern. However, they had been well behaved so there were no issues.

Local attractions

Take a good long look around Lavenham (15 minutes' drive) and you're unlikely to be disappointed. This pretty Suffolk village is considered one of the prettiest medieval spots in East Anglia, with over 300 colourful cottages and ancient buildings to explore, including the Lavenham Guildhall, preserved by the National Trust. There's more to get up to in Bury St Edmunds (25 minutes), a larger town with its own handsome collection of old buildings, plus a museum, a great shopping quarter, a cathedral and Abbey Gardens, a well-maintained park that’s home to the remains of a Benedictine monastery. A day out at the races at Newmarket (40 minutes) could also be on the agenda – if you'd prefer to watch horses (and other animals) going at a gentle canter rather than at full tilt, perhaps opt instead for Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm (25 minutes). Further afield, you can also reach the coast at Felixstowe (45 minutes) or Aldeburgh (an hour and 10 minutes), or punt along The Backs in Cambridge (an hour). Thetford Forest Park (35 minutes) is also popular, particularly with families, who can explore it by bike or take to the trees at Go Ape.
