  • Family-friendly and basic pop-up camping field in Neatishead, Norfolk
  • Five minutes’ drive to BeWILDerwood Norfolk; 20 to Sea Palling beach
  • Appaloosa ponies in the next field; pub and shop five minutes’ drive
Named after the contrasting colours of the spotted Appaloosa ponies who inhabit the field for most of the year, Yingyang Meadow is a pop-up site where simple family camping adventures in the fresh air are very much encouraged. It’s also a handy base for exploring the area around the village of Neatishead in Norfolk, with beaches and kids’ attractions accessed in under 20 minutes’ drive. No-frills facilities on the camping meadow include portable toilets and fresh drinking water. There’s a communal firepit for huddling around on cooler days, or you can hire barbecues for personal use and buy firewood on site. Parking is by your pitch so there’s no lugging heavy gear across fields for you. If pre-booked, you can organise private swimming sessions at Swim in a Barn (five minutes’ drive) where there are also toilets and showers on hand. There’s a well-stocked community shop in Neatishead (five minutes’ drive), with a small café for morning caffeine hits, plus a welcoming down-home pub where you can tuck into simple bar fodder and taste the ales from the in-house microbrewery.

Local attractions

There are treats aplenty for kids in local area: BeWILDerwood Norfolk (five minutes’ drive) has zipwires, nature walks and jungle bridges to keep everybody busy, while Wroxham Barns (10 minutes) is all about old-fashioned fun at the funfair and petting zoo. You can all jump on the mini-steam train for rides at Bure Valley Railway (both 10 minutes) or befriend the Shire horses and goats at Hillside Animal Sanctuary (20 minutes). The beach is likely to be another favoured destination: Sea Palling (20 minutes) offers bracing strolls in the dunes and games on seemingly endless sands, or you might get lucky and spot seals basking on Horsey Gap beach (half an hour). You can also get out on the water in sailing dinghies at Barton Broad (20 minutes), where there’s a boardwalk with the chance to spot lots of wildlife. Norwich (half an hour) has not one, but two, cathedrals to explore, as well as a scattering of museums and a lively market (closed Sunday) as well as more than its fair share of pubs and cafés.
