Cycle hire

  • Grass pitches in the grounds of Holkham Hall, in north Norfolk
  • Wells-next-the-Sea 10 minutes’ drive; Blakeney Point 20 minutes
  • Cycle hire, café and playground, plus shop selling food and souvenirs
Explore the northern reaches of Norfolk from Camp Holkham, a large pop-up site with grass pitches on the grounds of Holkham Hall, an elegant centuries-old country house. What’s more, the estate puts on a lively programme of events – from wildlife safaris to Saturday parkruns and crafts workshops – so you won’t be short of things to do on the days when you don’t feel like driving around East Anglia. Mind you, depending on how far you wish to go, you don’t have to reach for the car keys at all – simply hire a bike on site and head to the coast. It’s a 15-minute cycle ride to Wells-next-the Sea beach, a vast expanse of sand lined with colourful beach huts and backed by a pine forest that’s part of the Norfolk Coastal National Landscape. From there, continue west to Holkham beach, where you might see horseriders galloping by the water’s edge. Alternatively, head east to Blakeney Point (55 minutes by bike, or 20 by car), an area of mudflats that's home to a large colony of seals. On site, a café serves simple meals (sandwiches, sausage rolls, salads) and cakes; and there are restaurants, takeaways and pubs in nearby Wells-next-the-Sea (10 minutes’ drive); there’s also a beer shop on the A149 road (five minutes) if you want to stock up on local brews. In addition to a play area and a ropes course, the site has a shop selling souvenirs, children’s books and local produce, plus a toilet/shower block and a launderette.

What customers say

This pop-up campsite receives overwhelmingly positive feedback for its stunning location and beautiful estate, ideal for exploring nearby Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea. Guests consistently praise the friendly, helpful staff and the cleanliness of the design-led toilet and shower facilities. Pitches are described as good-sized and flat. Minor points raised include a limited number of pot wash stations and frustrations with self-closing taps. Some visitors were disappointed by the advertised food vans not consistently appearing on-site in the evenings.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Great site in a great location, pitch was level, site staff very friendly and helpful, the showers and toilets are kept very clean though out the day and nights could not fault them at all ,showers and toilets are super modern to be honest better than a lot of other sites with static facilities, showers are hot and powerful toilets are great, hook up are position well, the setting with in the grounds of the hall is great, short 5min walk to the hall where you can hire bikes for a few hours or the day they have a good selection including kids and electric bikes, there is also a cafe there and other activities to do, would definitely recommend this site for a pop up campsite it’s unbelievable great

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Location is perfect for both Holkham beach and Wells-Next-The-Sea, wardens were super helpful, cleanliness of facilities. Deer park was beautiful and the atmosphere was great as was the beer bus which had reasonably priced tipples, however ……

Disliked The Cost (very expensive at £50 per night) and additional unadvertised £5 charge from the Pinewoods holiday park over and above the Pitchup costs were very welcome to say the least. At £55 a night that’s nearly double the cost of comparable sites on the Suffolk coast. The tone of the Pinewood email sounded like a “demand for payment” stating payment was overdue - which it definitely wasn’t as we didn’t event know about it and hadn’t been asked to pay! Their policy of not allowing pup tents was also farcical as we were forced to take a large heavy awning rather than a small two person tent which we then didn’t attach to our camper. To have the pup tent would require a further 11m x 11m pitch and at £110 per night is astronomical for a campsite fee!
Would have been good to have a standpipe nearer to the vans/tents as it was was quite a hike which to be fair was alluded to in the site notes (recommending fill potable water tanks) but not explicitly stated.
Men’s bathrooms had spotless porcelain but only had a single very small basin and the floor was pretty wet which in a toilet cabin is never good. Not quite as good when compared with “bog-standard”!! latitude festival facilities we experienced a few weeks earlier.
Would stay again but only in a family group to get value for money.

Local attractions

Since you’re on its grounds, your first stop should be Holkham Hall itself. At this 18th-century country house, you might marvel at the splendid Marble Hall, with a dome inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, or get inspiration for your own cooking area in the Old Kitchen, a massive room lined with copper pans. Nearby nature reserves include Holkham National Nature Reserve (five minutes’ drive) and Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve (15 minutes). The former is a coastal area of sand dunes, pine forests and marshland where you might see oystercatchers and terns. The latter is a barrier island inhabited by geese and ducks. If you’re planning a trip to Cromer (50 minutes), check out the programme at the Pavilion Theatre, at the end of the pier, which might include musical tribute acts and stand-up comedy. A zig-zagging path leads from the miniature golf course to the Cromer Artspace on the Prom, a community space with temporary exhibitions and workshops.
