  • Wild-style pitches in the middle of Thetford Forest
  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by walking and bike trails
  • A short walk to High Lodge for a café, Go Ape and outdoor activities
Time to escape from modern life and spend some time reconnecting with the natural world? Go Wild Camping and Glamping could well be just the spot – this secluded, back-to-basics Norfolk site is right in the centre of Thetford Forest, making it a wonderful place to slow down and soak up some woodland peace for a while. The forest is the star here, of course – stay here and you'll be surrounded by natural views, from the trees towering above your head to the meadow grasses at ground level. There’s lots of wildlife to look out for too, and after dark the big open skies are filled with glittering stars (and, in even better news, you're welcome to light a campfire or barbecue for warmth and outdoor meals while you look up into the heavens). If you're keen to keep active, you're not short of ways to do so, as the High Lodge visitor centre is easily walkable from the site and has a Go Ape course, adventure play areas and a café as well as info about all your walking and cycling trail options. Try activities like mountain biking (on the pump track or Hit The Dirt track), tree climbing and wild swimming in the forest, before having a picnic at one of the forest's scenic picnic areas. To help preserve the natural setting, facilities have been kept fairly simple – you'll have access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area but you'll need to bring your own drinking water. Groups, families, couples and hikers are all welcome, and it’s also a dog-friendly site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (adults only, no cars)

Liked Large Open Field; Lots of Space; have great access for mountain biking.

The site has lots of untapped potential.

Disliked The photos supplied are misleading at best. The toilet block is a few portakabins and a trailer in the middle of the field.

The field is massive but there’s very little rubbish disposal facilities.

For the price charged it’s extortion. Would not recommend sadly.

I do wish it well; as if the Facilties were to a finnished standard then it has some great potential.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked Hard to find something!

Disliked It was an old farm land field with stumpy weeds/grass. A huge empty field with a sewage waste lorry, a few old porta cabin buildings housing the toilets/showers and an old caravan all
Parked up in the middle of the field. We were the only people there and were charged £60 plus £10 “early check in” fee, to literally set up our tent in an old farm field for one night. We won’t use it again.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We sincerely apologize for your disappointing experience, and we understand your frustration from your comment, "Hard to find something!"
We are truly sorry that the field was not well-maintained and that the presence of equipment and debris made your stay so unpleasant.
We understand your decision not to return. Your review is a catalyst for change, and we are committed to making the necessary improvements to create a site that offers genuine value for money.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (adults only, no cars)

Liked as a field in a scenic position

Disliked campsite still being set up, tatty portakabin toilets, rusty water tanker for flushing, no drinking water, if one catches the person working there you are handed bottled water, campsite empty apart from me, worried about safety of my belongings if left in the tent. what made it the worst campsite was constant traffic noise, even at the far end of field it was loud. why would you put a camp site there. to top it off were the jets. anthony

Non-electric grass campervan pitch (two person)

Liked So much space. Plenty of space to pitch away from each other and literally a 5 minute walk into the woods. Quiet and peaceful but close enough to places to nip out to for food etc.
Toilet and shower basic but absolutely fine for me.
Contact from hosts was great, quick to respond to questions.

Disliked Only thing is the extra cost per dog per stay - a lot of hotels are only £10 dog but appreciate that’s my choice to have dogs and travel with dogs

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for this fantastic review! We are delighted to hear you and your dogs had such an enjoyable and peaceful stay.

It's great to know that you appreciated the generous space to pitch and found our location so convenient for exploring Thetford Forest and the surrounding area. We also appreciate your kind words about our quick communication!

We also appreciate you bringing the issue of the toilet roll to our attention. We sincerely apologize for this simple oversight—that's a basic amenity that should always be available, and we will be double-checking our supplies more frequently to ensure it doesn't happen again.

We're so thrilled to hear that you would stay with us again! We look forward to welcoming you and your furry companions back to Norfolk/Suffolk on your next trip.

This is not a camping, it's an overprized former farmland.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch (two person)

Liked Tranquility

Disliked Toilets and showers are very bad. Women's single toilet not working (clogged) and men's toilets very dirty. The whole sanitary building is a mess.

Grass is not grass, but former farmland with sharp weeds.

This is not a camping but a piece of land where people pay to do some wild camping. The price you have to pay for what you get is dazzling.

It's supposed to be a startup, but nothing is ready. Not recommended.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We are so sorry to hear about your experience; it's clear from your review that we completely failed to meet your expectations, and for that, we sincerely apologize.

There is absolutely no excuse for the condition of our sanitary building. We are shocked and embarrassed to hear about the clogged women's toilet and the dirty state of the men's toilets. We understand that this is unacceptable, and we are taking immediate action to address the maintenance and cleanliness of our facilities.
While we are proud of our natural and tranquil setting, that does not excuse the lack of basic maintenance and proper facilities. Your comments about the weeds and the feeling of "wild camping" are a clear sign that we need to do better, and we are committed to making significant improvements.

We understand that this doesn't change your experience, but we want to assure you that your review is invaluable. We are a new business, and your honesty will help us create a site we can be proud of. We wish you all the best on your future travels.
