  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site 25 minutes’ walk from Thompson Water
  • Easy access to the Peddars Way, Cycle Route 13 and the Pingo Trail
  • Playground and pub within 10 minutes' walk
There’s a plentiful supply of Norfolk strolls or pedals around Acorn Meadow, a well-maintained dog-friendly countryside site. There are signposts scattered around the edge of the site pointing you in some splendid directions… perhaps to the Peddars Way past pingo ponds and Roman roads or Cycle Route 13? The Pingo Trail is another top route for seeing historic pingo ponds (and see them you should, as these rare ponds are mostly only found in Norfolk). Thompson Water, famed for the same periglacial landforms and popular with dragonflies and the occasional otter, is 25 minutes’ walk away. If you’re looking to get an idea of the wider picture, the site is 50 minutes’ drive away from The Broads and Norwich and an hour from Great Yarmouth on the Norfolk coast. There’s a playground a few minutes’ walk away and a sports hall 10 minutes’ walk away. Plus, at the end of the day, tasty food is served up at the local pub 10 minutes’ walk away. Families and couples should both very much like this grassy field site, which has simple facilities covering water, a washing-up area, toilets and a shower, plus a toilet emptying point for tourers. Everything is well maintained, so it should be no surprise that there’s always help at hand too.

What customers say

Acorn Meadow is a peaceful, well-maintained campsite praised for its beautiful rural location and exceptional host, Fred. Visitors highlight the cleanliness of the facilities, the spacious and level pitches, and great value for money. The site is conveniently located near a village pub with good food. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, one noted the Pingo Trail was overgrown. Many guests express a strong desire to return.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Flat ground, good comms from Fred who is amenable to help out if he can. Quiet during day. Close to cycle routes. Good for bikers too. Some pitches had benches ( we did) and this was really useful.

Disliked Nearby cockerels were noisy at 3am. Obviously nothing to do with the campsite but I feel that I should mention it.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Fred greeted us on arrival and was very friendly, even gave us a map with suggested walks. The site is very relaxing and calm. The chequers pub was absolutely gorgeous and a 2 minute walk from the site.

Disliked Bathroom Facilities were not great and could do with upgrading or adding more toilets/showers. Sorry Fred, but I removed a start from the facilities rating for this reason but even with this dislike we would still return to Acorn Meadow.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely site. Perfect facilities - 2 toilets, a shower, washing up area. All undercover and lit up at night. Play park just across the road with field, football goal etc at the village hall. The campsite owner Fred is on site everyday, usually multiple times as people arrive, and you can call him anytime you need assistance. Bins regularly emptied. Picnic benches dotted near pitches to use. The pitches have newly played hedges in between that we can see will grow into a privacy screen in a year or two. Overall a lovely, clean, well maintained site.

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked I had an amazing time at Acorn Meadow Campsite! The place was huge and had plenty of space. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and everything was clean and well-maintained. The showers and toilets were top-notch, and the staff was really nice and attentive. Overall, it was a great experience!

My very own Accommodation was using a Tentbox lite XL mounted on a Ford Ranger WildTrack. that was fine.

The visit was in connection with Event Music at Old Buckenham Country Park, which is situated approximately 20 minutes from the campsite.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this campsite—everything exceeded our expectations from start to finish! The owner, Fred, is incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home the moment we arrived. The facilities were spotless and well-maintained, with an electric shower that was always hot and refreshing.

The location is so peaceful and quiet, surrounded by beautiful nature. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind. There are plenty of scenic walking routes nearby, each offering stunning views and fresh countryside air.

One of the highlights was the local pub just a short walk away—their Sunday roast was simply delicious and felt like the perfect end to a day of exploring.

Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better camping experience. We will definitely be back, and I can’t recommend this campsite enough to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in beautiful surroundings.

Local attractions

There are lots of hikes to get stuck into from Acorn Meadow. Don’t overlook the trails of Thetford Forest Park (10 minutes’ drive), which has around 45,000 acres of dense forestry to explore. The forest’s namesake, Thetford (20 minutes), is just as splendid in a less green way. Some of its top spots include the Dad’s Army Museum, the Ancient House Museum and Thetford Priory. King's Lynn (50 minutes) is a household name in Norfolk. Check out the merchants’ houses and the Custom House from its heyday. If you time your trip right, you could snap up some good local products at the Sunday and Tuesday markets. Norwich (50 minutes) is also packed with things to do should you want a rest from the walks. Tick off all the many historic sites, like Norwich Cathedral, Saxon Marketplace and the St. Ethelbert’s and Erpingham gates. After a little rest stop or an easy afternoon activity? Melsop Farm Park (15 minutes) has some lovely little play areas and a café for a family-friendly and budget-friendly afternoon out.
