  • Peaceful and scenic park for adults only, half an hour from Norwich
  • Managed as a nature reserve and with its own willow-edged lake
  • Garage, riding stables and nature reserve within five minutes' walk
What does heaven look like to you? If you pictured a willow-edged lake, a wildlife haven and a kid-free zone, then welcome to your personal Shangri-La at Utopia Paradise Caravan Park, just outside the small Norfolk village of Lyng and half an hour’s drive from Norwich. Utopia Paradise is a peaceful site in the Wensum valley, with waterside pitches and a peaceful vibe. It’s part of a nature reserve, so you’ll be sure to spot loads of birds around the green grounds and next to the lake. If you want to explore the area around Utopia Paradise, riding stables and another nature reserve are within five minutes’ walk of the site. Dogs are welcome on site, so feel free to bring them on your rambles – just make sure to keep them on their lead. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, soothe your hungry soul at the bar-restaurant in Lyng or at one of the restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If you prefer fending for yourself, barbecues are welcomed on site, so pick up some supplies in Lyng and get grilling.

Liked: Quietness and pub in village!

Disliked: Being supervised whilst we set up as owner who said that ‘people are stupid’. Having caravans for over 20years, don’t appreciate being considered as ‘Stupid’. Toilets are basic - made in a shipping container…. Cold dark and no hot water in ladies. It’s a nature site so be ready for the noise of the geese!! Not a problem to us but others may find it annoying early morning.

Liked: Nice and quiet .

Disliked: The site is getting a bit scruffy . the lakes were untidy and the platoon , which would be nice to stand on was very rotten . Fallen trees in the ponds looked untidy and it all looked stagnant ! I kept my Labradors away from water (for the first time !).

Liked: Lovely peaceful site and village with the added bonus of having a large pond/lake with wildlife. The owner Suzan was very friendly and there to help. The Fox pub is just a few minutes away the food was excellent and staff very friendly and caring. There are nice walks close by and quiet roads for cycling . I like it so much I have booked a return visit next month.

Disliked: The add said there were no showers, There were showers and toilets although they were a little basic they were good enough for us

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: We wanted a small, quiet site and that is exactly what Utopia Paradise Caravan Park is. We were met on arrival and given the option of several pitches - we ended up on Pitch No.1 which overlooked the large lake. Handy hint - pitch up instructions say you should telephone on arrival however there is no telephone signal from the site so don't bother; the owner lives on site so just have a look around for her. We were pleasantly surprised to find there was a shower on site (despite pitch-up saying there wasn't) - apparently the owner is trying to rectify this (I believe there is a £1 charge per use). There are also two separate toilets (mens/womens) and a toilet within the shower room. All are nicely decorated and very clean. Our pitch had electric hook up option which is charged as 'pay what you use'; we stayed two nights which cost us £1.02! Another bonus was the free Wi-Fi which was very good; although it dipped out occasionally this is to be expected in such a rural location. There is a village store just a few minutes stroll from the site and also a pub - The Fox, which has good reviews. We only drank there, but the atmosphere in the beer garden was lovely. The site is approximately 3 miles from Marriotts Way, a cycle trail which runs between Aylsham and Norwich. The nearest point to join from the site was off Blackwater Lane which is pretty much in the middle of the trail. We chose to cycle to Aylsham which ended at Bure Valley Railway where we had a lovely cream tea in the Whistlestop Cafe before returning. Overall we had a wonderful couple of days and will definitely return.

Route directions

Please do not go to Farman Close: this is the office address and has no entrance to the site. The site is at Richmond place, Lyng. Travelling on the A47 from Dereham to Norwich, there is a slip road on the left signposted North Tuddenham. Take the slip road and leave the A47. When you reach the T-junction turn right and continue into Lyng (be careful: the satnav can send you the wrong way). At a staggered crossroad turn right and then turn left immediately past the shop. Drive slowly and look out for a road on your left past an old house. Continue up the drive up to our entrance.

Local attractions

Fishing fans should head to the fishery at Swanton Morley, 10 minutes’ drive from Utopia Paradise Caravan Park, to see if they can land themselves some carp, roach or pike from the lakes and rivers. Utopia Paradise is 40 minutes from the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and less than an hour from the start of the Norfolk coast path, so get your walking boots on. If you’d prefer a less outdoorsy experience, get your fix of stately homes and spectacular gardens at Blickling Estate, Felbrigg Hall, Brancaster Estate and Oxburgh Hall, all within 45 minutes’ drive of Utopia Paradise. A 30-minute drive will bring you to the city of Norwich, where you can roam its medieval streets, visit the castle, explore its museums and galleries, then wear out your credit card in the shops and restaurants. Banham Zoo is less than 45 minutes from Utopia Paradise – you can also take a trip to the Thursford Steam Museum, 15 minutes’ drive from the site, for a ride on the stunning fairground carousel and the gondola.
