  • Family-friendly site two miles from Mundesley beach, with dogs welcome
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromer and half an hour to Wroxham Broad
  • Under 10 minutes’ walk from a village pub and playing field
Nosing around for a north Norfolk break that is well-based for countryside walks, crabbing, cruising The Broads and chilling at the beach? Try Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, a family-friendly site on the coast just two miles from Mundesley. To be precise, it’s just a 40-minute walk (or a five-minute drive) from its beach and Victorian seafront, where there are beach huts. The site is in a peaceful Norfolk village called Trunch. You might be quite familiar with the place by the end of your stay – and happily so – because it has a social club hosting live music and two beer festivals per year, as well as a welcoming pub with fodder, beer, good music and other events. As if that isn't enough already, the village also has countryside walks, a playing field and a 15th-century church. No need to leave furry family members behind at Meadow View Camping and Caravan Site, as it's dog-friendly. Barbecues and firepits are also both welcome (just note that only firepits hired from Meadow View are permitted). You should have plenty of good tales for the firepit, with there being so many beaches nearby: Trimingham (10 minutes’ drive), Cromer (15 minutes) and Sheringham (25 minutes), for example. Walcott beach, 10 minutes' drive away, is a fine choice, with a café, ice cream parlour, fish and chips shop and a post office with a shop all along the seafront. In Mundesley, there are pubs, restaurants, cafés, takeaways, another social club, arcades, miniature golf, a petrol station and a supermarket – very handy indeed. Just remember that this is a rural location next to a working farm, so there are likely to be country smells and sounds at times.

What customers say

This is a spacious, peaceful campsite with large, level pitches and lovely countryside views. Visitors consistently praise the friendly, helpful owners and the exceptionally clean facilities. Fire pit hire and proximity to the coast and local pubs are highlighted positives. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few mention potential for queues at facilities during peak times due to their basic nature. Overall, it's considered excellent value for money.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Booked a last minute one night away break. Liked that extra costs were not added on after (ie. per person, per dog, awning...)
Large field, with electric points along one side. Lots of space for children to play in the middle of the field.
Was lovely that groups could position themselves together or people could be spaced well away from others.
Toilets and showers were of a good standard and kept very clean.
Was an unruly family, but the owners/staff spoke to them and addressed the noise issue. Very impressed.

Disliked My only negative was that you could only use their fire pits and wood.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the spacious surroundings and that the children had so much room to explore and enjoy without being a nuisance to other campers. Christine was on hand from the minute we arrived and nothing was too much trouble for her or the other staff.

The facilities were immaculate. Was an amazing few days and would highly recommend the site for exploring Norfolk

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked - Flexibility and freeedom in pitch location for non-electric pitch.
- Regularly cleaned facilities.
- Firewood delivered on golf cart!
- Evening sun (Non-electric pitches only) .
- Great location for taking day trips to all North Norfolk coastal towns.
- Friendly and attentive staff.
- 5 minute walk to the local pub and 8 minute walk to the social club.
- 8 minute drive to local supermarket.

Disliked - Nit-picking, but the washing-up station gets quite busy at times causing people to have to wait a while.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked The owners were very welcoming, after checking in we were shown to our pitches (a group of three tents). The unlimited pitch size isn’t over stated, we had more than enough space for three large tents, two vans and a large gazebo.

The toilets and showers were very well maintained.

The view out to the east looks over flat countryside and the sea, we watched a lightening storm over the sea. The light pollution is very low so great for star gazing. We used binoculars.

We hired a fire pit, home made from a washer machine worked a treat. The owners came around each day offering more wood for the fire and marshmallows for the kids, £5 for a bag of wood, £1 for marshmallows and skewers.

There’s lots of space for the kids and dog to play.

Disliked Though outside of the control of the site management I have to mention the noise from the RAF, running manoeuvres faster than the speed of sound 2 miles above your head means you can’t hear the person next to you shouting. It’s a problem for the area not the site.

Nothing to dislike about the site. If you are using the site to explore to local area then it’s perfect, I wouldn’t want to stay on site for the day as the RAF spoil what is otherwise an exceptional traditional campsite.

Electric grass pitch

Liked If you want a massive space for your kids to run around, this is the place. So safe and spacious, my kids knackered themselves out, everyone on this camp is so friendly and amazing. Excellent size pitches. Mundesley beach is 6 minutes drive away. Cromer 17 minutes.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great area; nice big site with plenty of space; reasonable toilet/shower facilities; beautiful part of England.

Disliked Some other campers did not keep their dogs on leads, meaning they came to my tent as I was cooking and I had to fend them off. Also some dogs yapping early in the morning and waking us up, and of course urinating/ pooing all over the site which was unpleasant.

Also, just too many fire pits being used. We had neighbours whose fire blew smoke into our tent each night because of the wind direction. Just inconsiderate and frankly necessary - the air is usually so fresh and lovely, why ruin it with encouraging / selling all these fire pits?

The latter has a gorgeous fishing port running seal-watching trips. Inland’s just as excellent.
