Happy campers enjoying the site

  • Friendly, well-maintained site just outside Mundesley, north Norfolk
  • Cromer 20 minutes’ drive; Norwich 40 minutes
  • Pub, supermarket and other amenities within a mile
Pick a pitch at Hayfield Hideaways if you want to be close to some of the most splendid parts of Norfolk’s north coast. Surrounded by natural scenes and within easy walking distance (15 minutes, via a footpath) of the traditional village of Mundesley (and its beach), this site is also a five-minute walk from a bus stop where you can catch the Norfolk Coasthopper. It really couldn’t be easier to leave the car behind. Hayfield Hideaways is a family-run business that welcomes well-behaved kids and waggy-tailed friends. This is the sort of place to head to if you’re after a simple rural escape surrounded by lots of open space. In addition to a level grass field, the well-maintained site has a good range of basic services, with two toilets and two showers, plus other handy facilities like waste disposal points. After a long day exploring what’s on offer in the surrounding area – from North Sea beaches to the Norfolk Broads (half an hour’s drive) – you can relax at your pitch over a barbecue or head towards Mundesley, where there’s a variety of spots to eat including pubs, restaurants and fish and chip shops. Other amenities – a supermarket, butcher’s shop, ice-cream parlour and fruit and veg shop – are within a mile of the site.

What customers say

This small, well-maintained campsite offers spacious, private pitches surrounded by wildflowers and natural grasses. Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Very easy to find and a very interesting site with the grass left longer in each pitch surrounding area.
The pitch is massive and the level pitch was great.
Facilities were clean and adequate for the size of the site.
Absolutely silent over night and the only sound at sunrise was bird song.
An absolutely fantastic location.
A peaceful site.

Disliked Nothing to dislike here.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely site, hidden away. Pitches are perfect size, surrounded by wild grass,
Which looks good.
Toilets, showers& pot wash area are very clean& well spaced out.
Would have been lovely to stay another night(as only stayed for one) but drop in night temperature prompted our departure. (Will now invest in warm sleeping bags!) We are new to camping & so far have only experienced heatwave temperature this summer, but would like to return in the future.

Disliked Nothing.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Perfect site to relax. Toilets are tidy. It’s now our go to campsite for heading to Cromer area.

Disliked Shower goes hot and cold. But you need to turn it off and on. So, not a real issue. Road noise can ve busy, but soon dies back into the night.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely site, great location near to Mundlesey.
Friendly team, the site is run efficiently, with facilities very clean.
The way they isolate each pitch is really efficient and helps to give you 'private space' which we really appreciated.
It is a low capacity site too, which is nice.
There were a number of repeat visitors there which is always a good sign, we would happily book again too.

This next but is not a criticism, just fair warning to potential future users.
The loos and showers are not a standard campsite block. If you or a member of your group is particular about this make sure you check out their webpage where there are videos that show exactly what's there.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked location,staff

Disliked Too few toilets for the size of the campsite.
Showers are a bit draughty although we were lucky with the weather.
Warped toilet door is a bit of a privacy issue.
22 pitches, not all occupied, but only 16 on website at time of booking.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re pleased you enjoyed our location and found our team welcoming.

As a pop-up campsite open for only a few weeks each summer, we’re proud to offer flushing toilets and hot showers, which aren’t always available at temporary campsites. The number of facilities is suitable for the campsite’s capacity, although naturally they may be busier at peak times.

The number of pitches shown online reflects availability at the time of booking, rather than the campsite’s total capacity. We hope you otherwise enjoyed your stay with us.

Local attractions

The lively programme at the Pavilion Theatre in Cromer (20 minutes’ drive) includes tribute musical acts, stand-up comedy sessions and dance nights. The theatre occupies the tip of the town’s Victorian pier, where there are also a handful of dining options. Take a leisurely walk along the beach before climbing the Doctor’s Steps up to North Lodge Park. Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (20 minutes) is a National Trust country house with elegant interiors decorated with delicate wallpaper (including hand-printed examples), paintings and handmade furniture. Aromatic herbs grow in the pretty walled garden, while the grounds include a vast area of woodland. In Norwich (40 minutes), take a trip back to the Middle Ages as you stroll along Elm Hill, a cobbled street lined with half-timbered buildings. Or visit Norwich Cathedral, with its splendid vaulted cloister, where you can meditate as you walk along the central grass labyrinth. There are views of the River Wensum’s leafy banks from St George’s St Bridge.
