  • Friendly, well-maintained site just outside Mundesley, north Norfolk
  • Cromer 20 minutes’ drive; Norwich 40 minutes
  • Pub, supermarket and other amenities within a mile
Pick a pitch at Hayfield Hideaways if you want to be close to some of the most splendid parts of Norfolk’s north coast. Surrounded by natural scenes and within easy walking distance (15 minutes, via a footpath) of the traditional village of Mundesley (and its beach), this site is also a five-minute walk from a bus stop where you can catch the Norfolk Coasthopper. It really couldn’t be easier to leave the car behind. Hayfield Hideaways is a family-run business that welcomes well-behaved kids and waggy-tailed friends. This is the sort of place to head to if you’re after a simple rural escape surrounded by lots of open space. In addition to a level grass field, the well-maintained site has a good range of basic services, with two toilets and two showers, plus other handy facilities like waste disposal points. After a long day exploring what’s on offer in the surrounding area – from North Sea beaches to the Norfolk Broads (half an hour’s drive) – you can relax at your pitch over a barbecue or head towards Mundesley, where there’s a variety of spots to eat including pubs, restaurants and fish and chip shops. Other amenities – a supermarket, butcher’s shop, ice-cream parlour and fruit and veg shop – are within a mile of the site.

What customers say

Great quiet spot, with plenty of room in a wild meadow, a short stroll to the beach and town. Top marks for super clean loos and showers, and the owners are lovely and helpful. Fires welcome. While a few folks mentioned the loo situation or a bit of road noise, most loved it and want to come back.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked The campsite is within walking distance to the local village with shops, pubs and the beach. It had possibly the nicest showers I've ever used on a campsite. Facilities were all clean and well maintained.
There is a small hut with washing up areas and an area for phone charging (very nice touch). The pitches were clearly marked, easy to find and a good distance from other campers so everyone can enjoy their space.
We were using our roof tent and found that the pitches were perfectly level to accommodate.
The owners were lovely and very kind.
We had a really good stay and would go back again.

Disliked Nothing to dislike

We really appreciate your kind words about our team and the site as a whole. Nothing to dislike sounds like the perfect stay! We’d love to welcome you back soon!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Everything! A quiet site with pitches nestled amidst wildflower meadow. Spacious pitches, a young wood planted to enjoy in a few years, GREAT showers and delightful hosts. Excellent wood, and more than your usual lonely firelighter in the bag, which was much appreciated as was the kindling. Simple and clean facilities.

Denise and Ali were so kind and thoughtful - it's clear this is a labour of love.

Excellent permissive path allowing a walk into Mundesley (20 minutes) off the road.

We'll absolutely be back, it was heaven.

Disliked Nothing.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful and detailed review! We’re delighted you enjoyed everything, from the wildflower meadow pitches and young wood to our showers and thoughtful touches like the firewood and kindling. Denise and Ali will be thrilled by your kind words.

It’s great to hear you appreciated the peaceful setting and the permissive path into Mundesley. We’re honoured to have been part of your “heavenly” stay and can’t wait to welcome you back again soon!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked -beautiful wild meadow to camp in.
-friendly owners.
-walking distance to local beach town.
-firepits allowed and can be provided and dropped off by the owners.

Disliked -sometimes you had to wait for a free toilet or shower as there are two of each, not the end of the world though.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review! We’re glad you enjoyed the wild meadow setting, friendly service, and convenient location near the beach. We appreciate your patience with the toilet and shower availability, our team is always working to make the facilities as comfortable as possible for everyone.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked A very nice set up lots of space, quiet not over crowded, clean toilets/showers + clean wash up area with charging point for mob phone, competitively priced, would consider booking next yr.

Disliked Unfortunately the weather let us all down, rained alot & windy, so we left 2 days early

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the spacious layout, peaceful atmosphere, and clean facilities. We work hard to keep everything in top shape, so it’s lovely to know it was appreciated.

It’s such a shame the weather didn’t play ball during your stay – we totally understand why you had to head off early. Hopefully next year (or this summer) brings sunshine, and we’d love to welcome you back when it does!

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Very nice camp site, amenities all kept clean and tent plots are well apart.
Would go back again

Disliked Showers on and off hot and cold, but wake you up first thing in the morning 😁

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the lovely review and 10/10 rating! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the campsite, especially the clean facilities and well-spaced plots – it means a lot to hear you’d return.

Apologies for the temperamental showers – we’re looking into it to make sure they’re more reliable going forward (even if they do make a very effective morning alarm!).

We’d love to welcome you back soon.

Best regards,
Hayfield Hideaways

Local attractions

The lively programme at the Pavilion Theatre in Cromer (20 minutes’ drive) includes tribute musical acts, stand-up comedy sessions and dance nights. The theatre occupies the tip of the town’s Victorian pier, where there are also a handful of dining options. Take a leisurely walk along the beach before climbing the Doctor’s Steps up to North Lodge Park. Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (20 minutes) is a National Trust country house with elegant interiors decorated with delicate wallpaper (including hand-printed examples), paintings and handmade furniture. Aromatic herbs grow in the pretty walled garden, while the grounds include a vast area of woodland. In Norwich (40 minutes), take a trip back to the Middle Ages as you stroll along Elm Hill, a cobbled street lined with half-timbered buildings. Or visit Norwich Cathedral, with its splendid vaulted cloister, where you can meditate as you walk along the central grass labyrinth. There are views of the River Wensum’s leafy banks from St George’s St Bridge.
