A great group pitch

Two of the four oaks

  • Off-grid and eco-friendly farm site 15 minutes’ drive from King’s Lynn
  • Sandringham Estate 10 minutes’ drive; Brancaster Beach 35 minutes
  • On National Cycle Route 1; a pub is 10 minutes’ walk from the site
Simple, spacious and quiet… the pitches at Four Oaks Camping are just that. This East Anglia farm site is an excellent choice for wildlife-loving individuals and families. Back to basics and rural, it’s in a remote corner of North Wootton village, yet still well-connected to local attractions and historic locations such as King’s Lynn (15 minutes’ drive), Sandringham Estate and Castle Rising (both 10 minutes). Based within the Norfolk Coast National Landscape, the site has mighty-fine views over the open skyline. Environmentally respectful facilities provided include composting loos, solar electricity, mains water for drinking and (alfresco) washing, wash pails and eco-friendly soaps. This is an off-grid site, so don’t expect mains electricity or chemical disposal points. Firepits are permitted and handily, the site sells logs sustainably sourced from the local area. What else to expect? Group bookings and space for events can be arranged, and well-behaved dogs are welcome too. If you’re in need of a snack, the local pub is 10 minutes’ walk from the site and there are shops selling essentials within a couple of miles.

What customers say

This eco-friendly campsite is praised for its spacious, peaceful, and natural setting. Visitors highlight the friendly and helpful owners, clean composting toilets, and the back-to-basics, relaxed atmosphere. It's family-friendly with swings and communal areas. While some noted the lack of traditional showers and a potential need for more toilets during busy periods, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many intending to return.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very Spacious camping fields, edged by trees, freedom to camp anywhere on the site. Excellent clean composting loos, cold running water, sink for washing up and even eco washing up liquid provided! A warm welcome from the hosts who were available to answer questions and offer help if needed but never intrusive. Just a few other quiet campers when we were there. Loved the wild feel to the site but with a few little luxuries such as electric charging points, seating under the shade of trees, (very welcome in the hot weather), and a nice mown path for walkers to access the site. Although having a lovely "middle of nowhere" feel, there are local amenities in nearby villages. We just walked to the Swan but would have explored more if we'd had time. Even kings Lynn is accessible without a car, we walked there, mostly off road and got the bus back.
We definitely want to return.

Liked Lovely campsite very peaceful. We got an amazing spot on top of one of the mounds with a great view of the sunset. Asia and Simon were very welcoming we played a game of chess on the handcrafted chess board with their family. Had an amazing time, would highly recommend! Can’t wait to visit again!

Liked Lovely family run campsite. Friendly welcome and lots of useful information about places to visit.

Nice extra touches like the swings and wooden chessboards enjoyed by my son, who also really enjoyed playing with the owners children.

Liked If you’re looking for an eco-friendly site to visit in Norfolk, then this your place.
Family friendly and welcoming. Asia and Simon have created a place where your kids are free to have a safe experience while you can relax and unwind. We’ve visited for about 3 years running now and will return each year without question.

Disliked If you’re looking for somewhere with a shower block and flushable toilets, then this isn’t for you.

Local attractions

The immediate area has plenty of pleasant trails for biking, including cycle-friendly tracks and traffic-light country lanes to attractions such as the mighty 12th-century keep at Castle Rising (10 minutes’ cycle on National Cycle Route 1). Longer bike jaunts might include the ride through flat countryside to RSPB Snettisham nature reserve (50 minutes) to see oystercatchers and dunlin flying over the marshes. The Norfolk Coast National Landscape offers coastal marshes, cliffs and dune systems to explore on foot, as well as a variety of beaches from the often-deserted dog-friendly stretch at Heacham South (25 minutes) to the bucket-and-spade vibe of Brancaster Beach (35 minutes) or the undulating dunes at Holkham (50 minutes). Inland, you can spy on the lifestyle of the Royal Family on a visit to the museum at Sandringham Estate (10 minutes), wander graceful parkland and admire the vintage car collection. There’s more heritage to be found in historic King’s Lynn (15 minutes), a handsome Hanseatic port town packed with Georgian mansions.
