  • Dog-friendly Norfolk site with relaxing fishing lakes and a woodland
  • Half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest’s Go Ape and High Lodge
  • Catfish, carp, tench, silverfish and more over five well-stocked lakes
Anglers and adventurers, get ready, because Fendicks Fishery is a stunning Norfolk site with five well-stocked fishing lakes and a mature woodland, just half an hour’s drive from Thetford Forest. Out there, there’s plenty of adventuring to be done, with High Lodge and its Go Ape centre as a good starting point. There's a well-balanced atmosphere at this site, as the team have worked hard over the years to manage and landscape the grounds so that there’s a good combination of nature and fishing. Anglers have access to five lakes with a variety of fish up for grabs, including catfish (weighing in at over 95 lbs), carp, tench, silverfish and more. With 32 acres of mature woodland surrounding the lake, peaceful and scenic are two words that accurately Fendicks Fishery. Plus, there’s a splendid set-up in terms of facilities, with a toilet and shower block that’s kept toasty by underfloor heating, a washing-up area, washing machines, information room, Elsan points and the reception area. All the grassy pitches have access to electric hook-up (how handy). When you’re not unwinding around the acres of space around this well-kept site or spending an afternoon fishing, you could take off onto the miles of paths around Thetford Forest or head further out onto the Norfolk coast, which will take you around an hour’s drive or just over.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite offers spacious pitches, exceptionally clean facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere. Guests praised the friendly and helpful staff, the good value for money, and the convenient on-site bar and restaurant serving lovely food. The fishing lakes are a popular feature, with many guests enjoying successful angling. While most visitors had a fantastic experience, a few minor points were raised regarding occasional noise and the availability of certain facilities during peak times. This is a highly recommended site for both anglers and those seeking a peaceful, well-run getaway.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked We stayed here for a motorcycle show with bands. and loved the location and layout of the site, we stayed in the Scrumpy field, toilets and shower block were an easy walk and always clean and well stocked. There is a cafe and bar/clubhouse on site both at reasonable prices. The Norfolk coast is only a 35 min drive.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Very well kept site and reasonable priced. Camping pitches were a generous size. Staff were very friendly and Lisa gave us a lovely welcome when we checked in and gave us a good run down about the site and facilities.Unused electricity refunded on check out. Good clean facilities which were kept nice and warm and cleaned to a very good standard. Hubbles restaurant served lovely cooked food throughout most of the day and evening, they even do themed nights. They serve everything from a fantastic breakfast to a most enjoyable Sunday lunch (all of which we sampled). Rondos bar is a nice place to relax and enjoy a drink or two.
They have 5 fishing lakes (however the water level was low due to the long dry summer, so was out of Fendicks control). We did fish for 2 days and had a few catches. 2 of the lakes have to be booked so we didn’t try these out. We will definitely return as we had a really enjoyable and relaxing time. Fendicks also host various events throughout the year and whilst we were there they had the Wicked Wheelers bike show on over 2 days which was free of charge and we spent the weekend looking around it and listening to the live music .
Would definitely recommend this site as a good base for exploring north Norfolk as well.

Disliked Only one small thing , it would have been nice to have a plug in the washroom facilities so hairdryers and straighteners could be used whilst having access to the mirrors.

The Suffolk Horn cabin

Liked Super little one night stay. Easy to find and park and access the cabin. Warm dry comfy and cosy. Liked the picnic table outside and the microwave and kettle were much appreciated ( not in all shepherds huts you stay in) great WiFi even though it wasn’t mentioned in the info. Super little find would definitely stay again.

Disliked Would have liked something in the cabin to transport water with. Luckily I had my drinks bottle - otherwise not sure what I would have done.

Butterfly shepherd's hut

Liked We stayed a weekend in a small cabin , we loved the place , very cosy, the amenities were top , showers , toilets , we has a great breakfast in the cafe and the bar , everyone was very helpful , and was clean and tidy , definitely go back

Disliked Not being told the water level was very low and dangerous to fish , was also not happy that someone was able to park in front of our lodge all weekend and had to look at a big white transit ,this ruined our time there , the fact swims can be booked in your location separately is not a great idea, also having the airer in the middle of my swim was not on the picture or informed of

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked Toilet block.

Disliked Water levels extremely low and the swim that i was ushered to by an unfriendly Bailiff was unfishable as not only was the water low but the banks very high which meant even if you managed to catch a fish if it was heavy it would be inhumane and stressful for the fish to lift it out about 2 mts and you'd need a landing net with a 3mt handle! which my 2mt handle usually is adequate.
Unfortunately, i didn't really take much notice on arriving and was concentrating on setting up my trailer tent, it wasn't until i'd finished when i realised how difficult it was going to be to fish the swim, so the next morning i expressed my dissatisfaction with not only the lake where i had to fish, but all the lakes were extremely low, so the receptionist phoned the boss and i spoke to him and he apologised and offered me a free day's fishing once the levels were back up and said that for now i could fish on any of the 5 lakes, (which,by the way, the Bailiff didn't say to me to have a look around the lakes and fish one that suits you ,but no, he shows me to the particular swim ,points out the electric point and just says "that's your electric there" and then drives off.
I realise that the cause of the low water levels were due to a hot summer and no rainfall, but my argument with this Fishery was once the levels reach that level and catching and landing fish is both stressful and inhumane for the fish and it's not the way i want to catch any fish, therefore, it would have been the right thing to do to contact future bookings to explain the situation to them and to give them the option of cancelling (with full refund) or to keep the booking! I would definitely have cancelled.
So after my converstion with the boss i found a swim on another lake which whilst it involved putting all my tackle on the edge of the bank, climbing down the bank for about 4/5 ft and setting up on rocks with the water under my chair, i'm in my 70's and don't expect to have to deal with this scenario.
After fishing for a couple of hours the Bailiff shows up and asks me if i'd booked to fish on this lake, to which i replied that i'd just spoken to the boss and he'd told me that i could fish anywhere and on any lake, so he went off in a huff only to return later, he then explained to me that this lake has to be booked (even though there was nobody else fishing there, or wanting to!!! jobsworth) and then started to question my rod test curve etc, i was getting really annoyed with his aggresive and disrespectful attitude that even though i was perfectly entitled to fish there i couldn't put up with this man any longer so i just packed up and left.
My stay should have been 3 nights of idyllic fishing, with the luxury of actually camping on your swim, unfortunately this experience was dreadful and i left a day early never to return.

Local attractions

Head to High Lodge (half an hour’s drive) to kickstart your tour of Thetford Forest. There are all sorts of ways to become one with the forest, from hiring out a Segway, taking an archery lesson or finding your zen with forest yoga. Go Ape Thetford (half an hour) will require a little bravery and some acrobatic skills for its treetop courses and zipwires, but on the ground, there are three cycling trails and four footpaths to follow from High Lodge. If you’re looking to find some places where the kids are likely to be entertained, Banham Zoo (35 minutes) is one such place, as are Melsop Farm Park (35 minutes) and Church Farm Stow Bardolph (15 minutes), two farm parks with a variety of animals and farm-style activities. A day at the coast is also possible from this site… just pick your seafront of choice. Perhaps Hunstanton (55 minutes) and Cromer (an hour and 20 minutes) to the north, or Great Yarmouth (an hour and 10 minutes) to the east? Towards the coast is Bressingham Steam & Gardens (40 minutes), a nice choice to see working steam locomotives in the flesh.
