Hoot. And hook. Big folk, come and join the owls, hawks, red kites, muntjac deer and other local inhabitants round and about adults-only Rectory Farm Fishing and Camping Site in Norfolk. We’ll add a hoof to that too: the site is next to the racehorse training yard College Farm and guests can regularly see its residents trotting through the campsite back and forth from their morning trot.

Bring your rod and licence to tackle the slippery specimens at Rectory Farm’s two fishing lakes, mostly carp and tench, but smaller shoals of roach, rudd and bream to try your hand at too. Fishing costs £5/£4 concession for the full day.

The lakes are as well maintained as the spacious tent pitches and the site facilities, where guests have access to loos, showers, taps with drinking water, a fridge freezer, sinks with hot water all day and night, waste disposal point and picnic benches to take in the views. Dogs are welcome and have special areas on site for energetic walks.

From Rectory Farm, it’s a safe ten-minute stroll to Hingham, with the Good Pub Guide’s dog-friendly White Hart inn, shops, bakers and butcher to pick up sausages and other essentials for the evening campfire. Hooray!
