  • Quiet and spacious family-run site in Little Snoring, north Norfolk
  • Half an hour's drive from Cromer beach, RSPB reserve and Holkham Hall
  • Shop with fresh local produce, gas and papers; short walk to the pub
They’ve not been sleeping in Little Snoring. This Norfolk village might be peaceful, but since taking over the family team at Crossways Caravan Site have been very busy landscaping the grounds, installing shiny new showers and toilets in the washrooms and updating the equipment in the laundry. Meanwhile, around the site they’ve made things nicely safe with new fences and hedgerows. Updates aside, Crossways is still a quiet countryside base where you can snore your holidays away uninterrupted or get out and see something new every day. Whatever you do, it’s handy to know there’s a shop on site, selling gas, locally made bread and locally laid eggs, as well as basic groceries, treats and newspapers. There’s a post office in there too, so no excuses for not sending Gran a postcard. Barbecues are welcome, as are canine companions, and there’s a big playing field behind where the latter can have a run around plus a small playground for the kids. It’s a three-minute walk to the nearest pub with grub and a 10-minute drive to supermarkets in Fakenham. For a quick outing, take a five-minute car trip to see the Thursford Collection, a working museum of Wurlitzer organs, vintage fairground rides and steam engines, or head a quarter of an hour to Holt for a steam ride on the North Norfolk Railway down to Dereham.

Local attractions

For beach days and walks along the pier, it’s a half-hour drive to seaside Cromer. A slightly wilder coast can be experienced at Hunstanton, also half an hour, where you can be wowed by the wonders of the SEA Life Sanctuary and take boat trips out to visit the seal colony or try fishing from the waves. The saltmarshes and wetlands of the coast are a paradise for birds and those who watch them; head half an hour to the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh for wilderness walks spotting bearded tits and marsh harriers, and fine views from the beach across The Wash. Inland, and also half an hour from base, Sheringham Park has a fine spread of walks and bike trails; more energetic pedallers can try the 20-mile route through the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Wells-next-the-Sea (20 minutes from the site) and Hunstanton. Wells makes a great starting point for shorter coast walks and rides. If members of your party want bigger thrills, take the 45-minute trip to BeWILDerwood for an adventure land of treehouses, zip wires and jungle bridges. If you’re more into national treasures, lavish interiors and extensive parklands, it’s half an hour to Holkham Hall – and Sandringham, home to H.M. The Queen but also open to you, is 40 minutes away.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Small and quiet site, our pitch was right near the facilities which were very clean and had everything you needed. Park with play area next to site accessed through a gate, pub 3 minutes walk away, shop at entrance to site, Staff really friendly. Great base, we went to Wells Next the Sea and Sherringham (both approx 20 minute drive).

Disliked: Toilet and shower facilities were very poor. hair in the shower cubicle and shower curtain stained at the bottom. Very dated and not that clean.

From the manager: I am very disappointed to see this review. When you came into the reception/shop to pay for your electric hook up and tell us that you were going to leave early and we asked you if there was anything wrong, you simply said no. Now if you had told us that you were unhappy with the condition of the toilet blocks then we would have sorted it. We have taken the shower curtains down, washed them and replaced them with the spare set. Sorry to say, we are only human and make mistakes and as it is a busy summer season, it just slipped through the cracks. We do try to rotate them on a weekly basis if not more often while we are busy. We have got a cleaner coming in, twice on a daily basis to try and keep on top of the cleanliness. Sadly, you must of just visited at a point in the day when they hadn't been freshly done. What a shame!

Basic facilities. Easy access. Little shop.friendly owner.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: There are two sayings that spring to mind which are opposite in meaning: first impressions count; and don't judge a book by it's cover. I'll be honest and say that my heart sank when we saw the site - tired looking reception/shop and toilet block - so first impressions not good. Yet, we had a warm and friendly reception and guide to our pitch, and the toilets, showers and washing up block were tidy and clean and regularly mopped and cleaned every day, with loads of hot water. Top marks there - don't judge the book by the cover! The site is small - the picture shows the full extent of it, and it's sited just off the main road to Cromer, with a housing estate running down one side, yet it's well shielded by fencing and trees and we experienced no noise issues. A good half of the pitches are taken by statics and everyone was very friendly. There's the village playing fields behind the site where our dog could run freely. All in all we really enjoyed our stay, using it as a base to explore the North Norfolk coastline.

From the manager: Thank you for such an honest and fantastic review - couldn't of put it better ourselves! We don't suggest anywhere that we are a hearty tourist attraction for those that like to stay at a site with a clubhouse and other amenities. We are a small family run site, centrally location within reaching distance of some fantastic spots to visit. We are so pleased to hear you really enjoyed your stay, thank you again for visiting and leaving such a great review.
