  • Family-run glampsite in grounds of a stunning Georgian country house
  • A five-minute drive from Cromer and 25 minutes from the Broads
  • Indoor heated pool, restaurant, kids’ treehouse, and a massage parlour
Get a feel for old-school Georgian glamour with a twist at The Grove Glamping, a family-friendly and family-run site five minutes’ drive from the lovely seaside town of Cromer in Norfolk. The site’s been in owner Ruth Anderson’s family for three generations, and Ruth was fortunate enough to grow up in the gorgeous Georgian country house the site is set up behind. Ruth has fond memories of camping on what is now the glampsite and, along with husband Rich, is determined to help other families have similar experiences. In a quiet corner of the garden, the glampsite is at a remove from the house, but isn’t entirely cut off. The house is home to a top-notch restaurant that guests are welcome to visit for breakfasts and dinners (book in advance), and glampsite guests are encouraged to make the most of the indoor swimming pool, which is just a few moments’ saunter from pitches. Days not spent splashing about in the pool should nevertheless entertain the whole family: there’s a kids’ treehouse play area on site that should amuse younger people, and an on-site massage parlour should entice the grownups (this is not included in the price of stays, and booking is essential). After all that? The surrounding Norfolk Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a haven for dark skies, so cast eyes heavenward for stargazing on clear nights.

Local attractions

Stays absolutely must start with explores of the marvellous seaside town of Cromer, roughly five minutes’ drive away. The scenic coastal spot has independent shops, art galleries, museums dedicated to the town’s glowing history of lifeboats, and a spectacular Victorian Pier that still hosts a traditional end-of-pier show. Foodies may want to wander among the cafés and restaurants hereabouts, as Cromer is famed for its crabs and seafood, and guests might even like to take up residence on the pier for some crab catching. Well-timed stays will coincide with the parades and Red Arrow flyovers of Cromer Carnival, which takes place every August. There’s plenty else round here to entertain once strolls about Cromer are fully exhausted. Golfers can take a swing at the golf club less than half a mile from base (where site guests get a discount), while history buffs might prefer to visit some of the many stately homes nearby – Felbrigg, Blickling and Mannington Hall are all within 25 minutes, and it’s just under an hour to Sandringham. Time out and about in nature is easily found too. The site is 25 minutes from the Broads, five minutes from the Amazona Zoo and 35 minutes from seal-spotting trips at Blakeney Point.
