  • Well-equipped family-friendly Norfolk site over 26 acres
  • A 35-minute drive from Norwich and 15 minutes from Snetterton Circuit
  • Licensed café, large play area and lakes for fishing on site
Among 32 acres of scenic Norfolk countryside, Old Buckenham Country Park is excellent for some serious ‘you time’. The site is dedicated to enhancing its natural habitats; surrounding the lakes are numerous mature trees, hedgerows and flower-rich grasslands, with many footpaths leading around the park. The kids are welcome to unleash their energy in the play area while adults catch up in the coffee shop. The café serves coffee but also has a licensed bar, which sells tasty light bites well into the twilight hours. The café decking overlooks the lake, so it has particularly splendid views at sunset (and there's free wifi in this area too, so you can share any snaps you take…) Be sure to unwind around your firepits in the evenings too. Grab rod and reel, for anglers, too, are invited to reserve a spot for a day of family fishing or solitary reflection. The lake has an abundance of silver fish. Fish aren’t the only animals to track down either: keep your eyes peeled for chickens (on the ground, not in the sky), ducks, geese, kingfishers, swans and owls. The site is less than five minutes’ drive from the Norfolk village of Old Buckenham.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (wild)

Liked The check in process was smooth & quick, pitches well laid out and of a reasonable size. If a little close together with how busy the site was that meant they requested we not keep a car alongside. That being said ample car parking close by. The playground facility and café where a great added extra for convenience. The main toilet, shower and washing up block, a great size and laid out really well for all the needs.

Disliked Suspect we may have been there for the busiest time of year (due to the local air show) and as such it showed. During the weekend it really didn't seem like the main toilet block facility was cleaned, if at all, anywhere near as frequently as it should have been. They also seemed to have a corresponding issue with the drainage when under such demand, and as such at times there was a site wide very very un-pleasant aroma. We would stay again at a less busy time but will avoid peak demand as it just brought the experience down for us on what feels like is a great site.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We're really sorry to hear that your stay coincided with such a busy time and that this affected your experience. The local air show does bring an unusually high number of visitors, and while we do our best to manage peak demand, it’s clear that on this occasion our facilities didn’t meet expectations.

We take cleanliness and site maintenance very seriously, and your comments about the toilet block and drainage issues have been noted and will be shared with our team to help us improve during high-traffic periods.

We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the site overall and would consider returning during a quieter time—we’d love the opportunity to give you a much more enjoyable stay next time.

Not bad for the cost but could easily be improved

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Toilets and showers were clean and large enough so never having to queue. The bar was also clean and tidy with a friendly atmosphere.

Disliked The pitches were poorly signed and I would say poorly maintained as litter wasn’t cleared but seemed to just be mown over, leaving plastic and paper behind. Occasionally got smells of what I assumed was people emptying chemical toilets drifting across the site, which were quite unpleasant and that I have never experienced before at other sites.
The bar, although friendly and clean offered only limited food options. On the occasion we visited the options were pizza or noodles.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (wild)

Liked Modern and clean Facilities, cafe area with lake view, street food vendors, children’s park.

Disliked The wood we bought from the cafe wouldn’t catch and smoked a lot. Some children making lots of noise on bikes past noise cap. Lots of wasps!! (Haha)

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Staff were friendly and so helpful. Site is clean, well tended. There were some larger groups, but all respectful and quiet. Shower facilities clean and modern.

Disliked The fact we were there for only a few days. We didn't have time to use the cafe or explore the park.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked This is the first time we have been here and we're impressed by the size of pitch and accessibility. It was a well laid out site.

Disliked Our only comment is that in the mens' wash area, the sink hot taps have high pressure and tend to splash out onto you, when you stand in front.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Very busy weekend on site but still quiet and peaceful. Lovely Bar area and nice food.

Disliked We stayed a couple of years back when the shower block was fairly new and very clean. This time by the evening the ladies shower block had a really nasty smell which put us off so showered in our caravan. I think the drainage needs looking at

Local attractions

Anyone keen on whisky may have found a nice spot here. The site is 10 minutes’ drive from the English Whisky Co distillery. If the vino is more appealing, it’s 35 minutes from base to Winbirri Vineyard for tours and tastings of reds, whites and sparkling wines. Thirsts quenched, turn next to Snetterton Circuit (15 minutes) where – during well-timed stays – guests can join the crowds to watch the GT Cup final, Mini races, time attack trials and fireworks. Not able to travel for a race? Have a go on the circuit yourself, with track days and training days available for cars and motorbikes. Those who prefer a slower pace to their holidays can skirt Snetterton and opt instead for leisurely days among exotic birds, ferocious beasties and peaceable pets at Banham Zoo (five minutes), or hanging about with the alpacas in the nearby town of Diss (15 minutes). In Diss, there is a leisure centre and a kids' trampoline experience for any rainy days. When some time away from rural bliss is required, a 35-minute drive will land guests in Norwich to explore castle and cathedral, stroll in stunning gardens, learn a bit about history at one of the many museums, or burn a hole in wallets with shopping at the Norwich Market or in high-street stores. And if it’s the coast calling, you’re roughly an hour’s drive from the Norfolk coast, where there are sandy beaches, arcades, scenic dog walks and, of course, plenty of ice cream stops.
