General

  • Traditional and welcoming pub site at the foot of the Malvern Hills
  • Three miles from the Three Counties Showground
  • Dogs welcome on site and in the pub

It's just as well for one's waistline that the Malverns have some of the best hiking and ramble routes in the land – for there's a full pub menu of eats and drinks to get through at The Marlbank Inn.

And it's just as well that said walks are simple to access too, as you might be a tad full after sampling said menu: the inn and its campsite are at the foot of the Malvern Hills within easy reach of scenic and slimming walks. The Marlbank Inn is in rural Worcestershire, close to geocaching and treasure trails, fishing and bike rides, and Worcestershire Golf Club for gentle teeing off. Events and shows are easily sorted from here too, as the Three Counties Showground is within three miles.

The Marlbank is a traditional and welcoming country pub, with a sheltered camping field well placed for handsome views over the hills. There's a playground on site, and family attractions like Ice Quest Malvern and a leisure centre with pool are within 15 minutes' drive.

Facilities include toilets and showers, an undercover washing-up area and disabled facilities, along with chemical disposal and ice pack freezing. Dogs are welcome on site and in the pub.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Children under the age of 10 are not allowed in the bar area unless dining with an adult.

Convenient location, could be lovely. Staff attitude dreadful. 21/02/2019

Very convenient position. Lovely camping field. Good electric hook up. Almost level site. Pleasant outlook.

    Disliked:

Our allocated pitch was on very soft ground, we got stuck before we even got to the correct spot and no assistance was offered. Other campers came to our rescue, which was very kind of them. We then also needed help to get off the pitch too, again other campers helped us as the staff said they had no facilities to help, and suggested that we call the AA to tow the caravan Out! They said it was our own fault for having chosen to book a grass pitch. Apparently we should have known the ground would be soft and we should have booked a hard standing instead!!
    The staff attitude was deplorable.
The showers were so cold (both the shower room and the water) as to be un useable.
The toilet waste disposal point is a toilet bowl in concrete but has no flush on it, meaning that all the waste just stays in the pan and the smell is....Well just imagine. Also the pan and it's surrounding concrete were covered in waste paper etc. and are clearly never attended too in any way.
The staff dogs roam around on a flat roof adjacent to the door to the loo and showers, and bark every evening and on occasions in the early hours at night. They are quite intimidating and on one occasion my wife had to go around to the front door and ask that the dogs be taken in as she was frightened they would jump down at her on her way to the loo.
    Would we return - No.

    Warm toilets!

    Disliked:

Disappointed!...Very mud site, expensive for poor quality. The hard standing pitch i paid extra for was too wide for the wheel base of our camper van... one side on concrete the other in the mud. The showers were freezing cold on the second morning and no hot water for washing up. Toilets, showers and washing up area could have been cleaner. Chose this site for dinner in the pub, but no food served Sunday or Monday evenings. Quite noisy , next to the main road but convenient for Malvern. The bins were outside the site in the pub carpark. The wifi didn't reach to the campsite, online the pub. Didn't see any staff except the barmaid when we checked in, no one came out to see if everything was ok.

Terribly muddy and noisy site. Positioned right next to a fast road so this is definitely not a quiet site as others described. It's expensive for the quality of the site.

Local attractions

After all those Malvern Hills hikes (for that really is a mighty fine eats and drinks menu in The Marlbank Inn), set off for indoor and outdoor days around the Malverns and its countryside.

Fab days out for families include laser questing and ice skating at Ice Quest Malvern; taking the self-guided Spy Mission treasure trail around the hills, and pummelling clay into submission at Green Frog Pottery, 15 minutes' drive away. Kids – and grownups – of a certain sort might also like the Malvern Museum of Local History; if not, Ledbury's 19th-century Eastnor Castle has regular events including family fun days and sword fighting sessions (foam swords, you may be somewhat relieved to hear). Both museum and castle are 10 minutes' drive away.

For a peaceful day out, drive 25 minutes to the meadow valleys, orchards and woodland of The Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve, to look out for woodpeckers and nuthatches, dormice and bats (the reserve has 11 of the UK's 15 breeding species). Pick up a free trail leaflet or buy a family trail guide and information booklet at the visitor centre, to head out after another bite to eat in the picnic area.
