The Marlbank Inn: Camping field

General

  • Traditional and welcoming pub site at the foot of the Malvern Hills
  • Three miles from the Three Counties Showground
  • Dogs welcome on site and in the pub; menu of Indian street food

It's just as well for one's waistline that the Malverns have some of the best hiking and ramble routes in the land – for there's a tasty menu of North Indian cuisine to get through at The Marlbank Inn.

And it's just as well that said walks are simple to access too, as you might be a tad full after sampling said menu: the inn and its campsite are at the foot of the Malvern Hills within easy reach of scenic and slimming walks. The Marlbank Inn is in rural Worcestershire, close to geocaching and treasure trails, fishing and bike rides, and Worcestershire Golf Club for gentle teeing off. Events and shows are easily sorted from here too, as the Three Counties Showground is within three miles.

The Marlbank is a traditional and welcoming country pub, with a sheltered camping field well placed for handsome views over the hills. Family attractions like Ice Quest Malvern and a leisure centre with pool are within 15 minutes' drive.

Facilities include toilets and showers, drinking water, an undercover washing-up area and disabled facilities, along with chemical disposal and ice pack freezing. Dogs are welcome on site and in the pub.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Bookings must not be for more than 7 consecutive nights.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground are unlit.

Children under the age of 10 are not allowed in the bar area unless dining with an adult.

The restaurant (and kitchen) is open 5pm - 9pm Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

The bar is open 4pm - 10pm Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm - 11pm Friday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday.

It is highly recommended that you book a table in advance due to limited availability.

The staff were really lovely, I didn't catch their names unfortunately (young lad with glasses and sandy hair and young lady with long dark hair both) they were really attentive during our meal and really warm and friendly when we arrived and also later on when we sat in the bar. Me and my partner are really into Indian food and this was top tier.

    Disliked:

Toilets were a bit cold (but very clean)

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving a review. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the Indian food- it really is one of the best around!

Muddy pitches & the hard standing, made up of two lines of concrete, was too far apart for our campervan to park easily.

Many thanks for leaving a review. Unfortunately the weather has not been on our side over the last few months causing a lot of the site to get muddy, we do apologise for this.

Amazing food at the pub. Easy booking system and really helpful staff. The welcome e-mail was comprehensive and made check-in easy.

    Disliked:

Pitch was hardstanding, but quite informal and muddy around edges. A few blocks of chipboard had been put down at hab door point to help with access. This is a minor point as it’s January and there’s been a lot of rain.

From the manager...

Many Thanks for leaving a review, I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. with us and found the welcome email useful!

Unfortunately, the we have had a lot of rain over the recent weeks making the campsite muddy. We are aware of this and are happy to provide wooden palettes if needed a few are already dotted around the campsite for anyone to use.

We look forward to welcoming you back, perhaps when the weather is less miserable!

Many thanks for leaving your review, we are glad to hear you enjoyed visiting the pub.

I apologise the campsite did not meet your expectations, during winter the site can get very muddy. We are aware the facilities are basic however we are a small independent business trying to do our best during these times.

Please do not hesitate to come back again in future, we will certainly welcome you back.

We're pleased to hear you enjoyed your time with us and and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Regarding the menu, we have recently come back from a short 2 week break of the pub being closed so for the first weekend being back open we had to use a condensed menu. I do apologise about this and soon our full menu will be back. Hope this did not dampen your stay and you will come back to try our full menu when it is back!

We went for new year. The team where very good on the run up as we did not know if we would be allowed to travel . They did their best to give us a less muddy pitch as we had a large motor home. There is a large car park if you don’t want to risk it. The food in the pub is amazing . Fabulous authentic modern Indian food so if you like a curry this is the stop for you. Great walking in the Malvens.
💯 recommend for a stopover or short stay.
Site was noisy but it’s new year so not an issue .

everything is harder and less enjoyable when it,s dark and gloomy but the facilties were very clean and we were thankful that we were in close proximity to the pub where we could take refuge.
    Pub was very welcoming.
All in all we had a great walk up the malverns next day and would definitely recommend camp site for walkers.

    The location.

    Disliked:

Pitch was sold as hardstanding - by which they meant two thin rows of patio slabs not wide enough for our vehicle surrounded by mud.

The electric point was two pitches away - luckily I had a long enough cable.

There was no hot water to clean dishes.

The drain in the shower was blocked so I had to dry off in a big puddle.

From the manager...

Local attractions

After all those Malvern Hills hikes (for that really is a mighty fine menu in The Marlbank Inn), set off for indoor and outdoor days around the Malverns and its countryside.

Days out for families include laser questing and ice skating at Ice Quest Malvern; taking the self-guided Spy Mission treasure trail around the hills, and pummelling clay into submission at Green Frog Pottery, 15 minutes' drive away. Kids – and grownups – of a certain sort might also like the Malvern Museum of Local History; if not, Ledbury's 19th-century Eastnor Castle has regular events including family days and sword fighting sessions (foam swords, you may be somewhat relieved to hear). Both museum and castle are 10 minutes' drive away.

For a peaceful day out, drive 25 minutes to the meadow valleys, orchards and woodland of The Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve, to look out for woodpeckers and nuthatches, dormice and bats (the reserve has 11 of the UK's 15 breeding species). Pick up a free trail leaflet or buy a family trail guide and information booklet at the visitor centre, to head out after another bite to eat in the picnic area.
