The Marlbank Inn: Camping field

General

  • Traditional and welcoming pub site at the foot of the Malvern Hills
  • Three miles from the Three Counties Showground
  • Dogs welcome on site and in the pub; menu of Indian street food

It's just as well for one's waistline that the Malverns have some of the best hiking and ramble routes in the land – for there's a tasty menu of North Indian cuisine to get through at The Marlbank Inn.

And it's just as well that said walks are simple to access too, as you might be a tad full after sampling said menu: the inn and its campsite are at the foot of the Malvern Hills within easy reach of scenic and slimming walks. The Marlbank Inn is in rural Worcestershire, close to geocaching and treasure trails, fishing and bike rides, and Worcestershire Golf Club for gentle teeing off. Events and shows are easily sorted from here too, as the Three Counties Showground is within three miles.

The Marlbank is a traditional and welcoming country pub, with a sheltered camping field well placed for handsome views over the hills. Family attractions like Ice Quest Malvern and a leisure centre with pool are within 15 minutes' drive.

Facilities include toilets and showers, drinking water, an undercover washing-up area and disabled facilities, along with chemical disposal and ice pack freezing. Dogs are welcome on site and in the pub.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Children under the age of 10 are not allowed in the bar area unless dining with an adult.

The restaurant (and kitchen) is open 5pm - 9pm Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

The bar is open 4pm - 10pm Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm - 11pm Friday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday.

It is highly recommended that you book a table in advance due to limited availability.

    Easy to find.
Decent Pitch with easy to find, close-by electrical power.
Nice area and a simple but quite a nice camp site.
    Really friendly and helpful staff.

    Disliked:

The shower facilities were OK, for only 4 occupied pitches. But I imagine 2 showers would be woefully inadequate for a full site of over 20 Pitches. They are also a little tired.
The toilets are a little better, obviously benefitting from the need to divide by Gender, but still not of the number I'd guess necessary if the site was full.

I arrived on a Tuesday (the only day the Restaurant is closed :-( ) but they had been busy at the weekend. Unfortunately, the area around my pitch smelled of urine. I'm not sure if this was due to lazy men not bothering to take a little walk, or too few toilets for the number of pitches (I suspect the former in addition to the Campsite being attached to a Pub!)

I can only apologise regarding some of the issues you have stated, unfortunately would appear some people do not seem to have any manners! Hopefully you could visit us again when we have our restaurant open (Wednesdays - Sundays)!

The food at the pub was outstanding, staff friendly and helpful. The field is nice.

    Disliked:

Very noisy campsite. 2 Parties until 2pm, drinking and shouting both nights with no intervention from owners. Why say this is not tolerated after 11pm on the website if there is no intention of enforcing it?
Facilities are very basic. Toilets and wash room is actually the pub toilets. Brushing your teeth in pub toilets is not my idea of fun.
    Pitches are very close together.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, im pleased to hear you enjoyed your food in the pub!
Unfortunately, we cannot control every single camper onsite, we do have rules in place to allow everyone to be able to get a good sleep and unless we are told about the noise issues we are unable to do anything about it.

The campsite was lovely, nice clean pitch and our pitch backed on to 2 adorable donkeys. We stayed for 2 nights and although it’s on a busy road we heard no traffic at night/early morning. The staff in the pub were wonderful we booked a table for Friday night ( which I must add you do need to book it got so busy) I wanted to try a curry ( I don’t do curry’s but really wanted to try one!) and the lovely waitress recommended one for me which I have to say was out of this world the flavour’s were wonderful I had a chicken dish my husband had lamb and he said it’s one of the best he’s ever had definitely try the food if your staying. The toilets and showers were clean and we had no issue with them at all.
A lovely little gem of a site surrounded by wonderful view. We will definitely be returning.

Local attractions

After all those Malvern Hills hikes (for that really is a mighty fine menu in The Marlbank Inn), set off for indoor and outdoor days around the Malverns and its countryside.

Days out for families include laser questing and ice skating at Ice Quest Malvern; taking the self-guided Spy Mission treasure trail around the hills, and pummelling clay into submission at Green Frog Pottery, 15 minutes' drive away. Kids – and grownups – of a certain sort might also like the Malvern Museum of Local History; if not, Ledbury's 19th-century Eastnor Castle has regular events including family days and sword fighting sessions (foam swords, you may be somewhat relieved to hear). Both museum and castle are 10 minutes' drive away.

For a peaceful day out, drive 25 minutes to the meadow valleys, orchards and woodland of The Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve, to look out for woodpeckers and nuthatches, dormice and bats (the reserve has 11 of the UK's 15 breeding species). Pick up a free trail leaflet or buy a family trail guide and information booklet at the visitor centre, to head out after another bite to eat in the picnic area.
