  • Family-run site with on-site fishing and a café
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal
  • Adults-only and dog-friendly; canalside for dog walks
If you had thoughts on an ideal setting for a hol between England and Wales, Hadley Park might well be it. It's in the Shropshire countryside on the border with Wales, next to the Shropshire Union Canal, and a handsomely scenic walk from Whitchurch, Shropshire's oldest market town. Hadley Park is a family-owned and run site that's set up for adults only. It has a small pond where guests can fish – for a fee; a big sundeck overlooking the pond, and a fully licensed on-site café serving fresh local produce. You can also have your hair smartened up in the Hadley Park salon: just enquire when booking using the details in your booking confirmation email. Amenities include a launderette and a washing-up area; there's also a chemical disposal point, and a modern well-kept toilet and shower block with disabled facilities. The park is adults-only and welcomes well-behaved dogs. A service station with fast food and coffee outlet is 400 yards away.

What customers say

A well-maintained, adult-only site located by the Llangollen Canal, offering pleasant walks into Whitchurch. Facilities, including showers and toilets, are consistently praised for their cleanliness and warmth. The site is dog-friendly with dedicated exercise areas. On-site amenities such as the cafe and fishing lake are popular. While some visitors noted traffic noise from the nearby A525, many found it unobtrusive. Pitches are generally level, with a mix of hardstanding and grass options.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked One of the highlights of Hadley Park is its dog-friendly environment. The site offers a freedom field with agility apparatus and another fenced area near the café, perfect for letting dogs roam. 🐾 The location itself is beautiful, conveniently situated next to the canal, providing lovely evening walks that were truly a delight.

The facilities were generally well-maintained, with clean toilets and lovely warm showers for a comfortable experience. I also had a wonderful surprise at the on-site café, where we enjoyed their ciabattas, which were fantastic. The staff were lovely and welcoming, creating a nice atmosphere to relax.

Disliked On the downside, our check-in experience was somewhat confusing. Upon arrival, we found that the "reception" was actually a café, and after confirming our payment, we were told to "just find our pitch," which felt a bit disorganized.
While the pitches were spacious and flat, the hardstanding was disappointing, resembling a mix of hardcore and broken tiles that definitely needs improvement. Additionally, there was quite noticeable road noise, which, while not too disruptive, was still a factor to consider.

An unfortunate incident occurred when one of the seasonal caravan owners emptied his catheter on the empty pitch in front of him. This was utterly disgusting and detracted from the overall experience.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great location right on the canal side, lovely walk into Whitchurch. Aldi, Starbucks & McDonald’s at the end of the road. Cafe on site that did a lovely, very well cooked vegetarian breakfast. Loads to do nearby, highly recommend Hawkstone follies. Dog friendly, roof tent friendly. Good shower & toilet block with a washing up room that has an information board, books & games and pay per use microwave (20p for 3 mins) and washing machine )£2.40 for 30 mins). Lovely little reading nook next to the lake with decking and a fire pit.

If you go into Whitchurch I highly recommend the Butty Bar for breakfast. Very dog friendly , £7.50 for a vegetarian breakfast and the ladies that run it and the locals that go there are so helpful & friendly.

Disliked How noisy the very nearby main road was with trucks passing constantly through the night. Bought earplugs for night 2 and slept soundly. Cannot see the road from the campsite so you don’t notice you’re near a road until you try to sleep, but take earplugs and it’s a non issue

Non-electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Every thing, great spotlessly clean toilet block, hot free showers, facilties in the toilet block for washing dishes, good location for visiting Whitchurch, good fishing lake, great cafe for breakfast, lovely view of lake from motorhome hard standing pitch.

Disliked Electric hook up on pitch would have been a bonus but no real hardship as toilet block was only 10 yards away.

Local attractions

Staying close to home from Hadley Park, the old Shropshire town of Whitchurch is less than a mile away, and the walks of the Sandstone Trail as well as the hacks of the Bishop Bennet Way are easily accessible via the Shropshire and Union Canal on site. Elsewhere, several famed Shropshire and Cheshire sights are within 20 miles of the park, like Chester Cathedral and the city's Roman ruins and amphitheatre; Chester Zoo and Chester Racecourse; the fab follies of Hawkestone Park, and the llamas, alpacas and 50 acres of greenery of Cholmondeley Castle Gardens. Nearby Shrewsbury is famed for its annual flower show and for its Darwin Trail commemorating the life and work of evolution dude Charles Darwin who was born in the town. More modernly, a good range of plays are held at the new Severn Theatre and several riverside pubs and restaurants are around at which to while the night away. The bars, cafés and independent shops of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Llangollen are within driving distance: other top town picks are a picnic in Riverside Park, a stroll along Victoria Promenade, and a steam straight ahead on the Llangollen Railway.
